fellow members, good afternoon.
i am currently a member of QFF & Krisflyer.

i can transfer points from Amex Platinum charge card and Amex Ultimate Cr Card to QFF & Krisfyer (miles). booking reward flights with Qantas is a breeze. having not used Krisflyer before i'm not sure how it works. i currently have 1,165,570:lol: points in Qantas so they are covered for the moment for O'seas & domestic. i currently have 75,000 Krisflyer miles and building. before i go any further with Krisflyer i need some advice please.

:?:, am i better to transfer all points to Qantas or should i continue to build the Krisflyer miles:confused:

regards

Certainly having KF as well gives you another option! Can't really see the advantage of only having QF miles to play with.

Unless you're planning a few F round the worlds with QF, I'd start building with KF.

With both QF & Krisflyer schemes based on one way awards , this can be extremely useful when you can't get award availability on QF for one sector/direction. For example QF and KF (if booked online) require the same number of points to get to London in business class - except KF is in the "standard" award category which has much better availability.

The other advantage, in being part of oneworld & star alliance programs - you have access to a huge range of airlines and destinations.

I suggest you identify the types of awards you are seeking and see which program offers you the best value. The answer will be different for each person as we all have different goals and dream destinations.

This is really sound advice - it does depends on goals and destinations. For example if the points are for a family to travel it may be sound to continue to build along the QF path. However, if it's for an individual or a couple, 1.1million QF points is already a good number of points - it will cover two first class oneworld multi stop (aka round the world) awards and still have 300K left over and hence a nice little balance in Krisflyer can help out with tight spot/availability if needed.

One caution on Krisflyer though: Points expires after 3 years! So if you intend to earn it, you need to also burn it too!

Why not just leave it in the Amex Membership Rewards program? U have more flexibility that way.

Everyone has different needs and there are much larger booking charges.
The big thing is the Kris Flyer availability of flights is currently wonderful.
The other issue is you have to head out of Australia to Singapore so going to LAX feels like "HEY we are going the wrong way!" if you are departing from the East of Australia.
3 year points expiry is something you have to watch and do a booking prior to expiry.
Going to London or Paris using Kris is a cinch both ways in J.
My experience is only gathered over 3 J and F full trips so it does not compare with 10 years of J and F flights on QF points redemptions.
Perhaps there is a member who has used Kris points for many redemptions as I only enrolled about 11 months ago so I have really just started burning the points off.
SIN to NYC direct is like WOW if you are a great sleeper in the J or F bed.

I am with QF and SQ and think there is flexibility in being with both OW and *A groups. You don't derive benefits (AU) domestic flights with SQ miles though.

By being in both you get great flexibility but getting caught short of enough points would be a downside. That would probably mean no flights for anyone or get ready to pay out for tickets.
If Qf dont have the flight and class you want you go with SQ Kris and pay the extra charges.
On Kris you can move 5 people on your points rather than only relatives.
With 2 Kris accounts in the family you can move family and friends on the 5 each basis.
This time last year we had 5 family members to LAX and it took 3 different flights in J and F both ways on QF.
If you are wanting to hold hands on QF that can be pretty difficult.

Yes but when it comes down to it with QF, it's quite amazing how you discover first cousins that you never knew you had ;)

Those are the least effective awards from Qantas FF program. Typically, QF's Business Class redemptions are 2 x the economy redemption rate, and First Class redemptions are 3 x the economy rate. I am not sure how SQ redemptions compare for the premium cabins.

For First and Business Class redemptions, programs like AAdvantage become viable. While the transfer rates from Australian credit cards are lower than transfers to QFF, the redemption rates are a lot lower. For example, a Qantas redemptions to London will cost 192,000 points each way (plus taxes + fuel surcharges), while AAdvanatge will cost 80,000 miles each way (plus taxes) for the same flights.

For domestic business class, QFF will cost between 16,000 and 50,000 one-way depending on the distance, while AAdvantage will cost 17,500 one-way for anywhere within and between Australia and NZ.

However, QFF gives the option for Any Seat Awards (often for higher redemption rates) while AAdvantage requires seats from the same pools as Qantas Classic Awards.

Ok but how do you run up a zillion AA points without buying AA air tickets as I use QF points to get to New York in First if it is available.
Is there a winner credit card for AA points?

192,000 points multiplied by 0.83 cents each plus the add on charges makes me think that is a great way to use QF system.

I have searched high and low, via Google, but there doesn't appear to be any credit card through which one can directly get Aadvantage miles.

Yes Diners transfers directly to AA but better value to transfer via SPG.Amex can be transferred by SPG.
Problems-diners systems are stuffed.
Amex-poor transfer rate.

For an OZ resident, 60,700 amex MR coverts to 20,000 SPG which converts to 25,000 AAdvantage.
