Need recommendation for best oceanfront hotel in Waikiki please

I've stayed in Waikiki a few times now but the last time I was there was in 2000 so my memory of where the top hotels are located is hazy (and we stayed in a hotel a few blocks back from the beach.)

My husband and I are going to Waikiki as part of his 40th birthday celebrations next year and would like to ideally stay right on the beach in a location central to restaurants, international market place, etc.

I would be very interested to hear your recommendations please? We don't want to spend more than $300USD per night for a room if possible.

I stayed at the Hyatt and it is perfect for what you are asking. Great rooms. Nice open air feel. and cross the road and beach sand is in-between your toes :)
 
Stayed at the Sheraton last Xmas - has been renovated and is perfect for location. Right on the beach.

Do a search for Honolulu & look at their Forum ( left hand side of the page).
Excellent forum for hotel information & lots of advice from locals & travellers as well.
There are plenty of hotels there that suit different needs & budgets.

We are going in July. Staying at Outrigger on the Reef this time.

Linny, I've just returned from Hawaii & stayed at Westin Moana Surfrider, & would highly recommend a partial ocean view room if your budget allows. I've also stayed at the Outrigger Waikiki which has lovely spacious rooms, but can be a little noisy (thin walls). Can also recommend the Hyatt, but that's not directly on the beach.
 
Sheraton is right on the beach and Hyatt is one street back. Both very nice with the Hyatt closer to shops etc

We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village last new year's eve in the Aliiaa Tower directly on the beach with great views. Aliia Tower has its own pool and club area where they serve canapes in the evening. Plenty of shops and restaurants in the village.
 
Thank you so much everyone. I loved reading your reviews alanslegal. Royal Hawaiian looks fantastic.

I am also loving the look of the Sheraton and the Moana Surfrider too. :D

Outrigger on the Reef looks good too.
 
Westin Moana Surfrider for sure...coughs all over the Sheraton and Royal Hawaiian next door

We were in Hawaii a couple of months ago for my birthday also ending in an 0. Didn't want to be at home for that one.

We rented a house on th north shore through VRBO then stayed 4 nights at the Outrigger Reef. We were in an oceanview room on the 8th floor in the oceanfront tower and did not get any city noise. I am also from the gold coast so we are spoilt with our beaches - the best I found was Ala Moana Beach Park near the AM shopping centre.

Also have a look at Waikele Outlet which is similar to our Harbourtown.

We will be there in March also and we too are looking for a cheap Hawaiian Airlines flight. They currently have a sale for $330 return HNL to LAX/LAS but only valid 9/8 to 29/11. The best I can find is 5% off by going to their website down the bottom of the page to site map, into programmes then preferred affiliates. Use the code AMWEBAAF.

Can recommend Juan (owner operator) from hawaiianairportshuttledotbiz for airport transfers etc.

Now to stay somewhere special have a look at Halekulani. It is next door to the Outrigger and I think the nicest hotel in Waikiki. They have a rate 4 nights for the price of 3 only valid up until Xmas at present but it brings the room price down to just over 300 a night.

Thanks so much for the information.

I ended up biting the bullet and buying the Hawaiian Airlines HNL/LAS return flights. Didn't end up using the 5% discount code as I wanted to earn frequent flyer points. Got them for $557US each return which I was pretty happy about. Saw the $330 return sale two days later but as you say is not for our travel dates! Phew! Would have been disappointed if it was for our travel dates and I missed out by a few days!!!

Thanks for your suggestions. I will investigate prices soon.
