O/night transit through SIN on 3K to QF

All... would appreciate the wisdom of the crowds here. Will be transiting through SIN from a 3K flight (arr ~11.45pm) to QF the next morning (~9am). Both operate from T1 from what I understand.

Assuming I did OLCI for QF before getting on my 3K flight and have no checked luggage, can I just overnight in the terminal 1 airside airport hotel rather than having to go through customs? Is it worth it - I assume it's not that cheap? I want a bed, sleeping on the floor isn't really an option...

Should not be an issue if you have used OLCI for QF flight and you only have carry on luggage.

Transit hotel in SIN was ~SGD70 for 6 hours block but may have increased in price recently. Check the website for updated rates.

It might be worth getting the lounge or transit desk to reprint the boarding pass, I am not sure how the security at the gate will treat a BP thats been self printed. I had no issues doing the reverse QF to a seperate non linked CX booking the next day, I had to wait three hours for a room at the transit hotel, it was a long three hours at 2AM , so try and book a room early.

Used the Transit hotel last month... it came to AUD$54. Actually I think I booked the "Standard" room without ensuite.... but they put me in an ensuite room anyway...

Quite nice and well worth the money IMO..... Can't help with the BP/transit stuff but will echo the advice to BOOK a room sooner rather than later...

I did ask about how one extends from the 6 hour block and was told you could just stay in bed until you were ready.. then fix up the extra hour(s) payment at check out,, same rates as if you had booked the extras earlier... Thought that was rather handy (and sensible!)

FYI. Book the transit hotel as early as possible - they tend to sell out. And remember given the airside transport system you can use the hotel in any terminal.

A few years ago when booked out, I managed to convince on of the 24hr bars (upstairs in T2 from memory) to let me sleep in their smoking room

An interesting journey this one, HKG-SIN on 3K, overnight in SIN then SIN-PER-SYD on QF the next day. All for a princely sum of about 650 AUD, 85 SC's and no overnight flight (I can never sleep).

Next question - to upgrade SIN-PER or PER-SYD on QF points? 24k for SIN-PER, 16k for PER-SYD. I'm thinking it's probably not worth it as it's a day flight and I'm saving points for a OW RTW award next year. Thoughts?

I am sure others would tell you to go for it but I would not waste hard earned QFF points on upgrades those flights and would rather use them for something constructive such as a Oneworld award where I actually get to go somewhere different.

There is also the possibility of staying airside, but lounging in the Cathay lounge (Skyview). They have some nice armchairs that should provide decent sleep, and of course showers etc.

Haven't done this, but can't see any real issues.

I did not do OLCI - I just went to the transfer desk. By the same token, if the OLCI boarding pass does need to be validated, I am sure the transfer desk can help.

Even if you have checked luggage, QF has early check in service in SIN. I did a CGK-SIN flight in March, arrived, cleared customs/immigration, checked in, ot my boarding pass for QF32, checked in my luggage (was traveling in F), then when back through security and slept in the transit hotel until 7am when I caught QF32 home. I assume they do early check in for all passengers as I did it in the SATS premium check in area and they asked what class I was traveling. I am sure if you are WP you would not have any issues.

All passengers and their travel companions on Cathay Pacific and Dragonair flights who have checked in online for flights departing from Adelaide, Amsterdam, Auckland, Bahrain, Beijing, Brisbane, Cairns, Cebu, Frankfurt, Fukuoka, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Kuala Lumpur, London, Manila, Melbourne, Nagoya, New York, Osaka, Paris, Penang, Perth, Rome, San Francisco, Sapporo, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney, Taipei, Tokyo, Toronto and Vancouver , including those transiting in Hong Kong, can print a boarding pass online.

Passengers with onward connecting flights from airports other than Hong Kong will not be allowed to print their own boarding pass. We are progressively enabling this feature to flights departing from other ports.

I was under the impression that one had to be travelling in First Class or at least premium cabin on certain airlines to use this facility.

I have always used that premium check in regardless of travel class (done it for F,J,W and Y) but only when traveling on QF or BA. I think you have to be flying J or F or be a QF platinum to gain access.

Still trying to work out if 2:00 hours is enough time to clear customs/immigration in HKG, collect luggage, take to luggage storage, go back through customs/immigration and board flight. Somewhat risky.

To me that's tight - we were in a huge queue for arrivals immigration (~1pm) when we were last there.

Departures was a breeze mind you (~midday).

I think you are right.

I don't want too many headaches and the realistic option would be to book a hotel room or collect luggage and leave in storage and head into town for a few hours.

I arrived in HKG about 12pm today. The queue for immigration was 5 rows deep, and couldn't have been less than about 30 mins I'd suspect.

No worries for me. Whipped out passport and through the biometric system in a couple of mins

I used this option over Xmas en-route to Vietnam from MEL.

Hotel rooms were basic but very quiet.

All 4 of us had a great sleep.

We then used the Krisflyer Lounge for hot showers to maximise the sleeping time of our 6 hour block in the room.

Luckily for me my flights ex-SIN were the 2nd flights on one booking (TPE-HKG-SIN) and the first flight on another booking (SIN-HKG-BKK).

I had no issue using OLCI at T-48 hours and printed the boarding passes. I am now in SIN Skyview Lounge waiting for an 8:30am flight and I will head down later to collect luggage from left luggage (hope I do not have an issue there for failing to collect luggage from carousel) and check luggage through to BKK.

So you went landside with a OLcI printed BP. Did you have any issues getting back through Immigration into the airside, or were you required to get it "stamped" by CX before they'd let you back in?
