Is Platinum the Holy Grail?

Winfred, would you mind expanding that thought - hopefully has relevance to my own flight plans this year. Many thanks.

I would have to agree with Winfred, CX in particular treat WPs very well, more upgrades have come from them than QF when I was a WP, which I will be back to in three months!

... Gold Elite used to have a similar offer...
...
Still do! mrs serfty is a GE when travelling NZ. It's not a *A benefit.

It was really good the treatment we received when travelling as a pair of GE's LAX-xAKL-MEL on NZ1 last month. :p:cool::cool::oops::oops:

CX treat other Oneworld Emeralds better when they travel in premium cabins. I have had a number of op-ups on CX from business class to First class.

I have only ever had 1 economy flight on CX and would like to keep it that way. I got a welcome greeting from both CSM's and that is where the welcome feeling stopped.

Yep my CX experience in Y is a meet and greet by the CSM and a personal welcome popped up on the AVOD

Mr!

On CX, HKG-SIN (SIN based crew), I have been welcomed in Y as a OWE, brought my meal first and got attention for replenishing drinks. For JFK-HKG nothing on board, but in the FCL at JFK before departure they did arrange for a row of three empty seats for me - me in aisle and window/middle seat empty - that outweights any in flight attention :)

I think I mentioned my experience previously.

It was a BKK-HKG flight and was warmly welcomed by both CMS's. Nothing further for the rest of the flight. I was sitting in the bulkhead seat, first row of economy, and the curtain was closed for the duration of the flight and then on descent the curtain was opened again.

After landing at HKG airport the male CSM ran down the aisle and closed the curtain and blocked the aisle as well. We could not see what was going on and when he opened the curtain there were no business class passengers in sight.

In my opinion this was extremely rude behaviour and very demeaning. He could have simply come down the aisle and blocked the aisle without closing the curtain.

The level above WP would be the Holy Grail, CL, or LTP (Life Time Platinum), which is almost a "urban myth", lol.

Technically the level above Plat is Partner Gold - this is clearly defined on my log in page. I am not sure of the value of PG to me other than being one step closer to LTG.

That's standard practice on SQ as well - to close curtains while J class pax disembark (and F pax as well), I don't know what's so rude and demeaning about it, unless it was in the manner that it was done? Rather that than on AA where I was in J after a LHR-ORD flight totally unprepared for the hoards of Y pax pushing past like they were attending a boxing day sale at Myer.:!:

Having said all that, whether in Y or J I have over time noticed a considerable difference in the attitude and demeanor of the SIN based CX crew compared to the HKG based CX crew (SIN based crew being better). (although none as good as a Thai crew member on SIN-BKK one day, she was wonderful).

WOW, not my experience at all. Personal greeting. J food and Beverages. Constant attention. They whole lot. Maybe because it was Y bucket? I don't know.

The way it was done. Simply guarding the aisle would have been more than enough. We were standing there for more than 2-3 minutes and I did not feel comfortable not knowing what was holding us up. I like to be able to see ahead and be prepared.

In my opinion simply not good enough even if I was sitting in business class which on most CX flights anyway. They treat most animals better.

Well it is for me.

I speak as a person who has only made SG for the last few years and I know that I won't ever be important enough to QF be CL, WP is my holy grail. Not sure that I would ever make it but its what I am for.

I'm also pretty sure that my wife doesn't want me to make WP as it means more time away from her. She must like me or something :D

Closing the curtains on landing is hardly a CX only thing and seems quite reasonable way to stop people crossing cabins on landing. Closing between 1st and business and also between business and economy on landing is no ruder than closing duing flight

As far as Platinum being a "holy grail" , the airline would like people to think that it is

I have searched this site a bit. What about Dave Noble? He seems (to me anyway) the most knowledgable person on this board. BTW, I also like NYCGuy's posts. Peace.

To answer the OPs qu, no, QF platinum is not the holy grail. For me, love and laughter rate far higher. Re: FFPs, QF platinum doesn't get you into FRA LH F lounge, nor the TG BKK one. Nonetheless, it does bring privelages; enjoy.

That is your opinion and and just because you think it is right does not make it right nor logical.

By the way they closed the curtains during the flight, and then opened them for landing and then rushed to close them again for deboarding. It achieves nothing other than anger and it is rude and demeaning. I have no doubt about it.

We may agree on recliners, but I'm with Dave Noble on this one. Lots of airline do it, I do not find it demeaning, nor any ruder than closing it inflight. Of course on SQ they are very polite about it. Has never angered me, and never seen anyone around me getting hot under the collar about it either.

On the other hand on the AA flight I was referring to in an earlier post, as one used to the polite Australian sense of travelling I was shocked as I was nearly bowled over by the stream of economy passengers practically running past me as we waited to disembark. One of the many reasons why I hate travelling in or to the LOTFAP. Give me a closed curtain anyday.:)

Not getting hot under the collar.

I simply stated an opinion. I am entitled to think it is not right, in fact inhumane. Whether my thinking (or opinion) is right or wrong is not for other people to try and correct.

Not getting hot under the collar.
.

 Maybe not right now. But you indicated that "..It achieves nothing other than anger ..". In my book anger = hot under the collar, I was just suggesting I've never seen anyone on board particularly upset at the practice.

Now to lighten things up, it will be interesting to see what happens with curtains once Qantas start operating aircraft with Qantas at the front and Jetstar down the back of the bus :!::!: :D:D:D
