City Flyer Services on Weekdays

Well, there is no real way that we can keep track of what we sell, we do not record what we give out or anything and I guess it is built on honesty. They are/were doing audits on the bar stocks to see if what we sold matched up with how much money we collected on that service, but that does seem an arduous task, but formally, there is no stocktake/inventory on board per se.

In the past year I have had one person ask me for a receipt and as far as I know we don't have the facility on board. I just say that there is no facility to provide it on board. Generally it is not a problem on board as most people don't require a receipt.

EDIT: And glad the OP's issue was sorted out very promptly, I was a bit late to replying with this one :)

thanks 737 for the reply, I was just curious how the accounting worked given the J cabin is free and I have at times been given drinks from there, I was certainly not insinuating anything dishonest occurs, its good to see honesty being relied on in this day and age.

Interestingly, the same person I spoke to in regards to the recent cabin crew troubles. Good to see a result of sorts.
I think sometimes they are just the messenger and we expect so much from them.

I know this issue is only trivial compared to your issue but I could have just as easily given up with the first answer but I persevered and in the end I got a satisfactory result.

Forgive me, I just discovered today, that we have a duplicate booklet, a basic 'Domestic Liqour Sales Tax Invoice' I think it was called. I have never seen it before as I have never had to use it  and I have not always seen it in the stowage when searching for other stuff also located there. So I do apologise, of course we have the facility to provide a tax invoice, assuming this booklet is on board. :)

I have finally received a call from Qantas Customer Care regarding the feedback I submitted. Had a lovely chat to Michelle and the inconstistency in service. She called a senior member of the cabin crew staff who agreed that weekdays includes any public holiday and it was wrong for Qantas not to provide the service on my flight last week.

End result is memo will be sent to cabin crew reminding them that public holidays are also weekdays and all CityFlyer services to include complimentary alcohol after 4:00pm and if it happens again to call her. Nice win, even if trivial, for the little guy.

P.S have a flight coming up on Anzac Day....

Thank god, now we can get drunk and fatter flying on public holidays

This also explains how it is possible to provide free discretionary alcohol so easily when deemed appropriate.

Just a quick point that my Cityflyer Y service today (Monday April 26th public holiday) did not offer free alcohol after 4pm. Let the inconsistency continue

I was on QF548 (19:05 service) SYD-BNE yesterday and when the meal service came around the person next to me asked for a bottle of wine and I asked for a beer. The flight attendant was entirely sure that we had to pay for it as it was a public holiday. I insisted it should be complimentary and she said she will ask the CSM but never came back to me about it. I was not going to pay for the beer so ordered a juice instead.

Should I follow up Qantas with some feedback? ;)

Absolutely, a matter of principle no less and it is a 'full service' alirline. Never get complacent on matters of principle.

SPRUCE

My flight tonight SYD-BNE offered complimentary alcohol in economy and it was mentioned early in the flight that it was a weekday service and no mention of public holiday. I now carry with me a printout of what should be offered on a QF werkday service.

I am extremely disappointed that there are still Qantas crew who feel a weekday cannot be a public holiday. For those who exeperienced the wrong service today I urge you to write to Qantas explaining the situation and at least receive an apology. If you need any assistance send me a PM and I will forward to you the details of the person I spoke to at Qantas customer care.

I think pauly7 made a light hearted joke about it. I do not care. I am entitled to free alcohol on weekdays after 4:00pm and I will get it.

We got free drinks on the 405p mel-bne

Mine was the 730 Melbourne to Sydney. Wine and alcohol "for purchase" only. If someone could private send me a copy of the correspondence I would be happy to chase it up..

What you need to now is in post #1 and post #14. Not sure JohnK recorded or transcribed his phone conversation :)

My QF546 6:30pm departure last night 26 April 2010 announced that alcohol was available for purchase, say what.

I did quiz them about it and mentioned that today was Monday; looks like they didn't charge anyone for alcohol, well not in my area anyway.

Dinner was rather nice along with the James Squire beer that I had with it. Seems like the bread roll has been removed from the tray; I thought bread rolls would have been a cheap way to fill people up without it costing too much.

Simply call Qantas and mention exactly what I have posted in this thread. If there is any doubt about what should be offered then refer them to the Qantas website on inflight cuisine for Domestic Economy. You can also mention the other flights that did receive complimentary alcohol after 4:00pm yesterday.

The person I spoke to was Michelle but I think she is from the premium desk. Still cannot hurt to ask for her by name.

Why do we have to remind Qantas cabin crew about the service they should be providing?

Last night I was in front row of economy SYD-MEL.

The cart came up and just before I could be served a PAX two rows behind me complained when requested to pay for their drink. The FA asked the FA near me who wasn't sure, but headed to the front to check with the CSM.

She came back a short time late to tell the FA behind me that 1) There had been "a recent memo about it " and, 2), Yes, drinks should indeed be complimentary.

Glad to hear first hand that Qantas has circulated a memo.

Disappointing that there is still inconsistency in advertised service.

We dont have enough public holidays to get the message through, I bet staff get a lot of memos! Solution - more holidays ;)

I agree there should be more public holidays and extremely disappointed that we are losing Anzac Day again next year. From memory there are 9 public holidays a year in NSW and 10 public holidays a year in Queensland yet lost Anzac Day last year and again next year.

Anyway hopefully AFFers will continue to remind cabin crew that public holidays can also be weekdays. The next public holiday is Queens Birthday and is not that far away.

I can tell you are not a Queenslander, the next public holiday for QLD's is Monday :) I am not one either but after 10 years I am getting close!

There is an Anzac Day holiday in the Democratic Peoples Republic of Victoria next year

I know it is Qld Labour Day next Monday but that should not really affect City Flyer services for the rest of the country. Also I am working on Monday so I can use the day as time off in lieu for June trip.

And that is how it should be for the rest of Australia as well.
