Looking at buying one of these for when I go to the US in August, save mucking around with finding internet cafes, as most of the hotels we are staying at have free wifi.

I was originally going to buy a 32GB iPod Touch but for a few dollars more, better off getting a laptop, which I can claim on my tax for work purposes.

It'll also be handy for backing up photos etc and give me something to do on the plane (catch up on Supernatural etc lol )

Anyone have one? Happy with it? Dell currently have it for $399. I'll check out Costco see what they have and apparently Officeworks sell Dell, but can't find this laptop online.

I carry a Lenovo S10-2 10" netbook - cost about $350. I installed Nortons & it has been excellent. I don't use Skype, so can't comment on that.
Take a network cable as well for when there is no wifi.

Try looking at getting the laptop when you get to the US of A as they are a lot cheaper.

I bought an Acer 11.6 in Netbook from Amazon dot com last yeat for about one third of the price I could get it here. Delivery was about 4-5 days and it has an international warranty.

I had the netbook sent to a friends house and it arrived before I did :!:

Since you have to August....don't rush.
I purchased an Asus eee PC 1000HE via Catchoftheday. 1Gig Ram, 160 gig hard drive. and paid $399.
My daughter took it with her to USA and used it to store photographs (was at a photographic conference in Vegas) and to use Skype to phone home evry day to talk to her 2 boys. Phone bill did not exceed $10 in that period. It worked well.

Since then, on Easter Saturday, Harvey Norman advertised 2Macines , same specs as the Asus eeePC , for $199 each. My brother-in-law got one and has since travelled interstate and used Skype perfectly.

My advice get one for sure, have aptience and you should not pay more than $250=$300.

The machine I referee to has 250 gig HD, 2 gig Ram and a 6-8 hr battery for under $A400.

I have an Inspiron Mini10 and am happy with it.
160gb HDD 1mb RAM running Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Remix.
Cost about $330 after GST refund.
My only concern is battery life. With the 3 cell battery it's only a bit more than 2 hours.

Sounds like sensational value. Although the way IT changes , in 6 months time could be expensive.
For me, I would get it straight away, start using it , load any programs on to it that you need.
It will pay for itself from the savings you make using Skype.
