I've started following these guys on Facebook and then signed up for the $30/annum subscription on the off chance I see a private jet back haul out of Brisbane that suits me to shout the guys at work.

Would be interested to see if anyone has had any luck with them. Looks promising to me.

Facebook fan site: EmptyJets (Australia)

Missed opportunities on Website: https://www.emptyjets.com.au/index.php?name=archived

I'm not affiliated in any way.

My question would be:

Is the Australian market big enough to ensure a membership to that type of website is worthwhile long term?

There must be only a small number of planes needing to be moved around, the site will have a presumably growing user base all with an interest in some of the routes. (esp the major trunks like BNE-SYD).

It's a totally different concept than "standby cars" or even "standby limos", and I just can't see how it would cope with a growing user base.

Some interesting past flights including an Aerostar bank run, a very expensive commute Bankstown Sydney, and the cray run from Killecrankie, not exactly routes I would imagine are in demand.

Can highly recommend the cray run from Killecrankie - & Killecrankie crays are excellent - had one this afternoon.

Possibly why they went subscription based. Unlikely to make enough revenue through booking fee/percentages.

Subscription is really just a feel good thing, if it happens it happens, get to dream about jetting off on a co-ordinated standby trip for the w/end.

That's right, not doing to cover the costs, just reduce them if they can. I sort of do the same when I'm moving things as well, offer cheap deals to cover a bit of fuel.

Wonder how many jet operators actually have charter facilities, probably explains the lack of actual jet aircraft in the history of flights offered.

Looking at the repeats of plane types/start or end locations (and yeah I know that doesn't mean much), it doesn't seem they have too many operators signed up at the moment (either Jet or Prop).

The Cessna Citation between Sydney and Melbourne would be a nice trip.

I am thinkning of signing up just to find that one off cheap deal to experience a private jet trip.

On a citation II it would be a slow trip ;)

Most of the Citation IIs in Australia are 30 years old - not thanks, the X's are a bit better at 15 years old. Old leather and fake wood anyone :D

I joined the site about a month ago - am still waiting to find the MEL/SIN G5 relocation flight for $2500 ;)

I wait in anticipation as their website seems to no longer exist..

Also have a look at www.emtjets.com

LOL

Mr!

As a WP you can get into any lounge you like before and after the flight ;)

Sam, most if not all private jets leave from completely different terminals if not different airports.

Ive got to be honest, if I was on a Citation X, the last thing i'd be doing is lamenting the lack of SC's

As they say, even First Class on a commercial airline is still public transport!

I also would rather travel by private plane.

BTW, there's an article on it in todays edition of Travel Today

Interesting quote from the Managing Director of EmptyJets (Glen Somerville).

Empty Jets only has “around 1%” of its planned inventory at present, with more aircraft owners coming on stream in the coming months, Somerville said.

It's difficult to find the stats, but I believe there are less than 1000 charter planes registered in Australia (out of about 11000 planes in total). Maybe the 1% is correct, but I really think the market is too small.

but I really think the market is too small.

I tend to agree with you there Mal, great concept but wrong market.

If we had the right size market it would work brilliantly, but it just doesn't seem to be sustainable, though as always happy to be proven wrong (and I hope I am)
