Hi folks,

So it looks like I'll be coming down to Sydney for a few weeks starting from next week, but unlike most of the time I do this, I'll probably need to be off beyond North Sydney every day (St Leonards).

Any suggestions for a decent hotel in the area? Preferably either Priority Club or Marriott, but I'm guessing my chances aren't good. I've stayed at the Rydges North Sydney a few times before (it's right next to our office), but would prefer to avoid it if at all possible!

If wanting to go to St leonards, then the Mantra in Chatswood is a reasonable option. 4 minutes on train to St Leonards and is right by the station or < 10 minutes in a cab

That might be worth a go. Also looking at the Medina Classic Crows Nest, which would be walking distance to the office. Shame the Urban hotels aren't QFF partners, the St Leonards one would do nicely if I could get it cheap enough!

St Leonards has good train connections, there is not too much difference between time from Nth Sydney and the city, but a lot of difference in the hotel!

That's a good point, actually. And I'd definitely prefer to be in the city for the weekends, unless I go home...

Thanks for the thoughts folks! I'll have to investigate the train situation, but I suspect I'll end up staying in town..

Danny

North Sydney hotels are the Harbourview only a couple of mins walk from North Sydney Station, or the Rydges (Ridge&Mclaren St???)
There is also the Vibe Hotel @ Milsons Point.

Hotel urban would probably fit the bill, to be frank I am not sure there is much difference between staying at St Lenoards and North Sydney on the weekends, they are both dead. When I worked in West St for a US company one of our senior Melbourne based staffers liked the McLaren, it might be more suitable for a long stay.

If I were you I would stay at the HI Potts Point for the points, I cannot stand Sydney as far as working there but catching a train cross the bridge would be a not bad way to start the day, and your going against the Peak traffic from Kings Cross once you hit the city.

Dead is being kind but it is purely a business district so you come to expect that.
If you are going to be travelling by train, coming from the city of the morning would be the better option (stil crowded, but once past Wynyard the crowds thin out more). So maybe something like the Menzies etc .

If staying in the city and taking the train, I wouldnt stay at Potts Point. To get to St Leonards would involve 2 trains with a connection at Town Hall. I would be staying where can take just a single train

HI Potts Point is the closest to a train station of all the ICH, HI Old Sydney is an alternate with a walk to Wynard or the Darling Harbour HI/CP, both of which involve an uphill walk. HI Potts Point also has the 200 bus that goes via the Cahill to St Lenoards, 20 odd minutes :
