Saw an ad tonight for Jetstar Jet + fares, includes meal and entertainment as well as a comfort pack on international flights. Intersting, wonder what the difference is compared to buying the extras online at present.

$80 each way on MEL-BKK compared to JetSaver Light, $60 more than JetSaver.

Its now $68 to buy those addons if u want it.

above is sample for MEL/BKK.

IT does say you get one hot and one cold beverage per meal, i thought it was unlimited soft drinks before?

JetPlus - Jetstar Airways

JetPlus

JetPlus is a new international fare with comfort and convenience! JetPlus is available on selected flights to Hawaii, Thailand, Bali and Japan. With a JetPlus fare on your Long Haul flight you get:

- 2 meals with 1 hot and 1 cold non- alcoholic beverage per meal service (due to the shorter flight duration, 1 meal will be served on direct flights to/from Melbourne and Sydney to Bali).
- a personal video on demand unit
- a comfort pack (blanket, inflatable neck pillow, eye shades and ear plugs)
- 20kg checked baggage allowance.
- No change fees for permitted time, date and passenger name changes. Fare difference is applicable.
Why not experience a low fare, and travel with all these inclusions!

Long Haul flights are international flights operated by A330 aircraft and are direct flights from Australia to Japan, Thailand, Hawaii, and from Sydney and Melbourne to Bali.

Now if they'd just have added discount Y SC's.....

I did a dummy booking in May for MEL-BKK r/t.

The new JetPlus fare is highlighted in green.

It costs an extra $60 on top of the JetSaver fare, per sector (i.e. for a r/t it was $120).

If I chose JetSaver then went to the last page and selected a comfort pack, entertainment unit and meals (both ways), the total of extras was $108.

Some notes:
  • If you buy a meal via the "Extras" page (i.e. on a JetSaver fare), do you get 1 meal or 2 meals on a proper longhaul? JetPlus claims you get 2 meals on your flight.
  • The "meal extra" item still appears on the last page if you book a JetPlus fare. It defaults to selection "No, Thanks", but if you select the "Yes" option you can specify if you want a VGML or a normal one. In all cases, the price is unaffected (i.e. all included in the JetPlus fee).
  • You can't book JetPlus using a Jetstar Any Seat Award.
  • You can change a JetPlus fare within the same restrictions as a JetSaver fare, except there is no change fee (you still pay fare difference). No extra flexible conditions apply.
  • And yes, sports fans, you do not earn a single QFF point or status credit on the JetPlus fare. (BOO!!)

I saw the ad this morning, but found getting info on their site this afternoon pretty hard going. It certainly wasn’t easily accessible, I had to search.

Disappointing really that it doesn’t include discount SC’s, I’d even go so far as saying I’d pay a little extra for my fare (but not JetFlex) for SC’s, but that’s not happening is it.

The package seems worthless to me, if I’m paying for meals and drinks I want unlimited drinks, or more than 1 per meal. As for entertainment, as the CEO said, I have an iPhone (OK, he said iPad)… and I can’t get a pillow or blanket already with them, awful!

Obvious drive to push more 'up sells' as the take up normally on these extras in economy is pretty low...and why wouldn't it be? The meals are very average and sometimes unable to be identified, the VOD units are straight out of a 1983 RadioShack, comfort pack is anything but, etc you get the picture.

And yes previously if you purchased your meal at time of booking you also received unlimited non alcoholic beverages for the entire flight - wonder if this remains unchanged?
