ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

If we pay via Sniip, do we still get the points like we do currently?

ATO payments will still earn points via Sniip, Payment Logic PayRewards etc.

I paid an ATO bill via Sniip on my new MyCard - the transaction has cleared / is no longer pending but the rewards points balance doesn't seem to reflect that spend.

It could be because the transaction has only just cleared (within 24hrs) and the rewards points balance hasn't updated, or, indeed MyCard's T&Cs specifically exclude it (hope not).

I'll wait another 24hrs and hope that the rewards points balance updates which reflects that spend.

You can see transaction by transaction accounting in the rewards portal, which is handy as not all offer that. Go to rewards summary --> transaction points history. It often takes a day or two longer for these to show up and have even had some show initially as zero before correcting.

But you can at least see. Which also means that <rant> you can see that in the way the points cap applied before 30 September, you get to see any over cap transactions earning zero points, but the one refund copping negative points, and at the higher online rate even if the original zero points earning transaction was in person </rant>. So yes, a level of detail that is rather useful generally, frustrating in edge cases that should longer happen due to end of cap, particularly when the support bot (alleged human, suspect otherwise) flat out lies in providing assurances that would definitely not be something that would happen.

To be clear - this is a MyCard answer, not Revolut, in response to a MyCard comment.
(and yes, ATO across multiple payment providers seems to earn points on MyCard, at least in the pre 30 Sep regime, haven't had cause to test since)

Yep, I've had a look at the rewards portal and a transaction that should definitely earn points (KFC) - also on the same day as the ATO payment via Sniip, has cleared and it showing 0 points still.

Hopefully once the points for the Sniip payment are allocated, that is pretty much confirmation that Sniip payments are eligible payments that count towards sign-up bonuses.

I've got another tax payment which is a PAYG instalment - that will get me to my spend criteria.

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will not budge on its decision to stop accepting credit card payments from December 1, after holding a snap crisis meeting with business groups angered by the move..

In a statement on October 2, taxation commissioner Rob Heferen said the ATO "would have preferred to continue accepting credit cards" but credit card companies declined to offer a rate that was low enough

"We will continue to seek to have the ban overturned," a spokesperson from the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), which attended the meeting, said.

Might have to start paying in cash.
