Qantas to start new route Perth to Jakarta

Would VA really want to compete to Bali from Perth with Batik, Transnusa (who operate about 22 flights a week) Jetstar with I think about at least two daily , Air Asia up to I think 3 or 4 daily?
Looks like AirAsia is now operating 5 daily flights since October 1 - higher frequency than some domestic routes from PER?

And I think I am sure I had read the return of Garuda to Bali ex Perth is "on the cards".

Previously, the commission rejected Virgin's appeal for seats on the PER to DPS route on the basis that VA did not have the number of planes needed.

Subsequently, JQ closed down Jetstar Asia and transferred planes to Jetstar Australia.

If VA has the planes, it could make the PER to DPS route work. VA has made the CBR to DPS route work. WA is far bigger than Canberra.

There are lots of people in WA with Velocity points who want to go to Bali.

That's very civilised!
Yes it is. Now they will have to employ the international lounge staff full time...😉😁

I find that interesting ...that the airline is not allowed to determine if they have the aircraft but some commission has the right to say yeah or no? 🫣

The commission did not determine that VA lacked aircraft. The commission determined that the way VA wanted to operate the tag flights would have contravened the requirements of the bilateral agreement.

VA wanted to operate them as through flights on a single flight number, but have the ADL-PER and OOL-PER legs operate from domestic terminals with passengers clearing customs in Perth.

There was precedent for that type of operation. E.g. JQ's DRW scissor hub where flights would depart to/arrive from BNE/MEL/SYD as domestic flights and then continue to DPS/SIN/SGN on the same flight numbers, with passengers clearing customs in Darwin.

Ultimately, the commission found that this set up would not have met the requirements of the current Indonesia bilateral. Had VA decided to operate these as traditional tag flights from international terminals like JQ and QF currently do, they probably would have got the allocation over JQ.

Any extra flights to CGK is great. It’s a great place to get decent priced premium seats to the rest of the world and has a stack of decent hotel options. We also find CGK a very easy airport to negotiate and immigration is always a breeze. We love our stop overs in Jakarta

Actually that's quite possibly a deciding factor for the flight timings. They really need to spread flights out given the size of the lounge.
Relocation to PER T1 precinct can’t come soon enough. You’d assume that’ll come with much better facilities for Dom and Int ops.
