My friends got MEL-MAD on air china for $1196 this coming october. All the chinese carriers were around the same, although a couple flew to BCN instead of MAD.

I was able to secure high season SYD-MAD over Christmas/NY a few weeks ago on CA (Air China) for $1500 per person along with the free hotel for long layover. Free seat selection too, and 777 have a 3-3-3 layout. Painful web experience though and had to download the app + verify ID to get some of the perks for the hotel, seat selection and apparently might be able to select food up to 2 weeks prior!

And they have some 2-2 pairs right at the back. Friends of mine got that on the way back from China and loved them!!
