Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

19/8 QF2 LHR-SYD, Y saver to PE * 2 pax - success as a WP, notified at T-20.
I had requested for the LHR-SIN leg only but the upgrade covered the whole segment.

I don't believe it's possible to request an upgrade for just 'half' of a QF1/2 flight segment?

Gold - we were due to change to AirFrance at SIN - so could only apply for points upgrade for the SYD to SIN leg

No luck on QF7 on Sunday (requested Y to J). Cancellation of QF7 on Saturday probably didn't help. Flight was absolutely packed.

I've put an offer in for a CDG-SYD in October (flex Premium Economy --> J). Not holding my breath as a SG.

More curiously, I was surprised that the cash bid upgrade option tool maxed out at a $3,000 offer and the dial indicated a "good" offer from $1800.

Seems a bit sus to me given my understanding is points upgrades are processed before cash offers, so I went with the points upgrade request given you can't do both. We'll see what happens, but if cash upgrades were processed first, I'd have no issue paying $2-3K for that route.

Confirmed Upgrades are before points upgrades.
Bid now upgrades are after points upgrades.

The dial thing is just a gimmick.

Success, so to speak QF41 SYD-CGK from X -> U at T-48

Question for the brains trust: do upgrade requests process once U inventory is added??

Context
Somewhere in the last 3 days, the aircraft has changed from A330-200 to A330-300
I learned this today just after 2pm, after I jumped on expertflyer, and saw firstly, that we've gone from J2 a couple of days back, to now J5

Then realising the U2 availability, I've checked on the qantas app, tried a new booking, and yes - business reward seats!
So if I already had an upgrade request, why hadn't this been fulfilled? Is it because Gold member upgrades process "Within 24 hours of the scheduled flight departure"??

I phoned up via the app, spoke to someone who initially processed just another request for upgrade and I was like, can't you confirm the upgrade now?
Then instead, he rebooked that leg of my ticket into the business classic reward - for 29,800QFF and $227 fare difference, instead of the 41,900QFF to upgrade. Given the extra SC earn from Points Club - and now the guarantee of flying business - I think this was a good outcome, but was it right?

An upgrade only automatically clears if there are classic reward seats available in business class on domestic flights, not international flights.

Qantas would still have been trying to sell those 5 business seats till the day of the flight (even if two of them are bookable as points seats). Your upgrade may have eventually cleared but you may also have been behind 5 platinum or platinum one requests that had still not gone through.

Just because an upgrade for a P1 or WP can clear from 7 or 3 days doesn’t mean that they actually do. I’ve found that on international bookings, WP upgrades rarely go through more than 36 hours before a flight. When I get my P1 family member to put the request in, they only clear at earliest at t-48 on A330s. So as Gold, you were a long way away from getting an upgrade confirmed especially considering it needs to be within 24 hours.

So yes, it was right and you didn’t get upgraded, you just changed the booking which was the smartest thing to do.
