Buying Air Canada Aeroplan points

I didn’t think it added up.

My ‘dilemma’ 😬 was that I had SIN DXB booked in Suites - surprised they were flying the A380 there as we have done that route many times and always in a B777 so I was half expecting it to change before departure date in April and, of course, it did last week. SQ wouldn’t change the booking to SIN SYD for my return date as it would be 2 days beyond the original issue date of the ticket 🤦‍♀️ so the taxes and miles would need to be refunded. After commenting politely that this was a ‘wish list’ trip and that it wasn’t me who changed the plane type, they did put a hold on a seat for the return sector SIN SYD in Suites whilst I waited for the miles to be refunded.

After much deliberation, I decided to keep the original itinerary LHR SYD with a 14 hour stopover in SIN. I’m hoping that I might be able to change SIN SYD to a flight the next day if availability opens up. If it does, can I contact Aeroplan and request that this be a stopover for an extra 5k points and the change fee?

I’m now confirmed to fly Suites SYD SIN which I am very excited about.
the suites bookings are through KrisFlyer I presume.

It really depends if the LHR-SYD is married, which is suspect it might be. If that’s the case aeroplan won’t be able to divorce the segments and add a stopover. There would need to be fresh availability LHR-SIN and SIN-SYD.

But if you find availability the next day, by all means try. Nothing ventured nothing gained!

Yes, Suites through KF.

I only discovered the 5k points stopover after making the original booking - still learning.

Thanks again MEL_traveller.

After having the login timeout a few times, finally managed to get through only to receive yet another damn second-class citizen offering:

3k+ = 35% bonus
25k+ = 55% bonus
50k+ = 85% bonus

Absolutely mental they do this, without disclosing how to qualify for the 100% bonus offer

well… last couple of times I got the ‘less-than-maximum’ bonus… but this time, hey presto.

So completely random I feel. You could be lucky next time!

I ended up flicking an email to the CCB, because now that I've opened the promo I'm going to be targeted with adverts across all my devices for the next few weeks where they advertise the 100%, without mentioning that it's targeted. It's infurating as heck.
