Accor is set to bring back one of its most recognisable brands to Brisbane’s CBD through a new conversion deal, with an official announcement expected in weeks.

Speaking exclusively to HM at a media event at Mercure Brisbane Spring Hill on Wednesday, Accor Chief Operating Officer in the Pacific region, Adrian Williams, revealed the hotel giant had finalised a deal that will see “the return of one of our iconic brands to the Brisbane CBD”, describing the project as another sign of the company’s growing confidence in the Queensland capital and broader regional market.

“We’ve got a new brand coming back. Well, one of our iconic brands coming back into Brisbane in a new project,” Williams said.

“Unfortunately, we’ve literally just signed. The ink hasn’t even dried, so we can’t share it.”

However, Williams confirmed it would involve the repositioning of an existing property.

“It’s a conversion,” he said.

While the brand remains under wraps, Accor executives indicated the announcement is imminent, with the deal expected to be unveiled within the next couple of weeks.

I read about this on a Facebook group, I think the key information was "the return of one of our iconic brands to the Brisbane CBD". To me this suggests it was a brand that was previously in the CBD but is no longer. So that would rule out Ibis (as there's one already there, right? Sofitel and Pullman also are already operating in the CBD. Can't be a Movenpick, Raffles, Banyan Tree or Fairmont, as they never operated in Brisbane so how can they return. Did Novotel previously operate in Brisbane CBD?

ChatGPT tells me there was previously a Novotel (in the CBD) and a standard Ibis in Brisbane CBD. So my money would be on either of those. They could claim a Novotel is coming back because the current one is in South Bank, and an Ibis because the current one is Ibis Styles.

As it's a conversion, I was thinking the Mercure Spring Hill, with its recent transformation, might have been the brand to change, but I'm not sure that's technically CBD and I'm not sure what it would change to?
