Pretty cool - EgyptAir are going to serve Sydney via Singapore from next year. The Facebook post by SYD says it will be on the A350-900s, but the official announcement above says aircraft type to be announced at a later date.

I have flown EgyptAir to / from Cairo in Y and J domestically and internationally. Inflight service and food were good but it is a DRY airline from memory

The EgyptAir lounges in Cairo are dire and very average

Moreso if you can avoid (most of) the Middle East and Russia?

Cairo would be an interesting place to transit, if that isn't your final destination.

Also, MS is a dry airline. That's not a huge deal for a lot of people, but just saying...

I think I don't need a transit Visa. Do I remain airside? Any "gotchas" I should be aware off? Assume same terminal...Would you choose a 6 hour or 2 hour transit? (all on same ticket). Thanks in advance.

Isn't it one of the airports where you really should keep some US dollar bills on hand to make sure things go smoothly?

Last time I went through CAI (both into and out of Egypt, and on a domestic sector), I didn't have to bribe anyone.

May have helped I was in Business Class for the outbound flights, but didn't seem an issue all up.

Don't think Egyptair was on my bingo card, but what an exciting route if it gets off the ground. Surely will push Ethiopian into doing something too you would think.

Will make that Sydney-Singapore routing very competitive with 5 carriers doing non-stop (Qantas, SQ, BA, TK (from next month) and now EgyptAir. Let's hope they offer something other than the overnight into Sydney.

Last time I went through CAI (both into and out of Egypt, and on a domestic sector), I didn't have to bribe anyone.

May have helped I was in Business Class for the outbound flights, but didn't seem an issue all up.

I was in RJ business a few years ago, and while it wasn't needed ( we got through security in about an hour), there was a unusually high number of people being ushered to the head of queue by baggage porters.

I am concerned whether SIN-SYD will become oversupply.
Honestly, why no EUR-HKG-SYD?
Demand for HKG is high and it is underserved which passengers are suffering from $5000+ fares to/from HKG from Australia.
I am sure HKG maybe more profitable?

Singapore are very liberal with their traffic rights and readily grant foreign carriers fifth freedom rights. Hong Kong I think is more strict + Cathay and oneworld seem to have more of a hold over HKG than SQ/Star over SIN
