Qantas Club clean glasses

I'm definitely not the first person to note this, but I've just spent a few hours in the Qantas Club at Brisbane domestic and I genuinely struggled to find wine glasses without lipstick residue or worse. It was really noticeable. I don't normally take notice, but where I was seated there was bright light shinning through my stemware and it was an eye opener. I started looking at the bar when I was choosing glasses and it was almost every single one.

Anyway, I would probably prefer not to have ever noticed and it may be the same everywhere. I'll be sure to check during all my upcoming flights. I'm wondering if I've just been living in a blissfull unaware bubble all this time.

Keen to hear what others have experienced/noticed.

Important to note. It's not going to stop me having a drink while waiting for my flight home on a Friday afternoon, or anytime for that matter, but I will start taking more of an interest than I have in the past.

I assume they use commercial glass washers, they should be up to the task but maybe lipstick science has outpaced washer science. Perhaps the long lasting lipsticks available these days are to blame

Don't get me started on the toilets in the shower suits in the MEL J lounge.
Seldom cleaned properly, often 'residue' between the seat and the bowl.

Part of the blame needs to be placed on the user as well. Not just the cleaner.

^ Splash-back is a real issue … especially if you’ve spent the last 24 hours’ worth of travel eating lounge food.

The glasses were clean & dry & sparkly late-weekday-morning in the interim QF international J, early June.

Haha, yes. The issue may be real. However, I always thought that if I make a mess then I should clean it.

I have a friend who works at a restaurant, and they've found that their commercial dishwasher sometimes struggles to remove lipstick residue from glasses. Modern long-wear lipsticks can be particularly stubborn, so the glasses are often pre-wiped before being put through the dishwasher.

Haha, yes. The issue may be real. However, I always thought that if I make a mess then I should clean it.

On that note … I noticed a distinct lack of toilet brushes in CX lounges and also in hotels in our June-July trip.
What - patrons are stealing them as souvenirs?
People have little collections of CX & Accor & etc etc toilet brushes?

I have a friend who works at a restaurant, and they've found that their commercial dishwasher sometimes struggles to remove lipstick residue from glasses. Modern long-wear lipsticks can be particularly stubborn, so the glasses are often pre-wiped before being put through the dishwasher.

Even back in the early 70s when I part-timed in a fine dining restaurant bar, we had to rinse all glasses in a basin of hot detergent water (to remove grease residue) and wipe glass rims for lipstick imprint before placing them on the glass racks to go in the machines. All glasses had to be sparkling clear before use.
When I was saving up for a deposit for my 1st home in early 80s, I also moonlighted at Pips International (remember that hip nightclub in Woolloomooloo). Well it was so dimly lit and busy, there was absolutely no pre rinsing. You got what came out of the washer.
