Accor Charging Me More for a Confirmed Stay

The booking is still showing up in my app at least, but I've had no further information from the hotel.

I have submitted a NSW Fair Trading complaint.

How stressful for you @Phoenix-1 - I guess you now have a fair level of uncertainty about whether that booking will stick and what they will try to charge you for it.

I have stayed at this property once and never would again.
It is an unrenovated uncomfortable relic from the 1970s.
If I were in your position I would definitely be looking for an alternative.

I think for the OP the period for the hotel to claim ‘mistake’ and action it has long passed.

If they try it now I’d be filing a VCAT/NCAT/your-state-tribunal case.

It underwent another renovation in 2018, and was actually build in 1992

Nothing at a comparable price, unfortunately. If this doesn't work out I'll have to cancel my trip.

NCAT/VCAT is usually pretty quick with arranging hearings. Might still get your trip!

They have honestly left it rather late to cancel at this stage and still claim mistake.

And it's not like there isn't a heck of a trail to back up your emails etc by way of this thread...

Our dispute was heard within a few weeks by NCAT. That was against a small business and service provision.

It seems this is not the only Accor property to try a similar move on guests wanting to change a free cancellation pay at hotel booking to a pay in advance, non-refundable booking, otherwise they will cancel the booking. But by self report on FB, the member managed to get them to honour the original booking.

I hope you have the same outcome @Phoenix-1. It's making me nervous as I have a 2 week booking at an Accor property in Abu Dhabi over their F1 weekend in early December and don't want to have to deal with this too.

Basically many posters said things along the lines of “why are you even complaining” “be glad they didn’t just cancel it” “what difference does it make if you pay now” and similar comments that missed the point of a fully flexible booking being changed after it was made to much less attractive conditions.

Some people on FB are pretty dumb.
