Changes to Westpac credit cards from 1 Oct 2026

This is only going to continue.

Several businesses I deal with have said they will increase prices to call customers, as they can't surcharge for credit cards.

All while we earn less points

Thanks RBA :)

Hopefully there will be competition amongst businesses so you can avoid those that jack up prices unreasonably

Happy to see Westpac is waiving the next annual fee for my Qantas black card (but not the separate $155 QF fee).

“To support you with these changes, your next annual card fee charged on or after 30 September 2026 will be waived; however, your Altitude Qantas Rewards Fee will still apply. We'll take care of this for you. No action is required.”

Just received an email from Westpac regarding the credit card update. If you still hold the homeloan package, then the annual fee of the credit card is going to be waived as usual, But annual rewards program fee will start applying after 30 Sep 2026.

I just received notification of the changes (i.e. increased costs) for my Qantas Altitude Black w/ Westpac but no annual fee waiver. I wonder what the catalyst for you having it waived was? Did they mention the waiver in the increase email?

After reading wxxnxs's comment, I assumed it was because they had a home loan. I have a Westpac Velocity Platinum card, finally got the e-mail about the upcoming changes today as well, and received nothing regarding annual fee waivers.
