No mention of the route (landside) to the lounge.

What happened to the lift? Granted, it is small and slow, so maybe not enough capacity? Or perhaps the lift egress runs into the work zone...

I suppose if they didn't have another plan, there's not much that can be done. Not sure if retrofitting stairs would be any idea (like where will you put them), plus safety considerations, plus if the lift is out of action, you'll violate accessibility laws.
 
The thing is there ought to be stairs somewhere near by, it would be required for fire evacuation purposes. In MEL Domestic they used the stairs whilst the escalator was out of order, all airside.
 
these things are over before you know it. I'm sure we might get an extra scone or something to tide us over for the ten minutes of inconvenience
 
4 months to fix an escalator?

I know nothing about escalators but this seems a little excessive....

The down escalators to the MEL QFd J/QP has been out for months now.
Blurb on here says it has been out for months since last year sometime.
And yes, I have used that back staircase, dingy as a carpark one.

Honestly I think most people here have no idea what they’re talking about. A quick look at reddit and other sites you’ll see people complaining from just about every city in the world.

Here’s one from Singapore - which last I checked, was in Asia. MRT quotes 4 months for escalator refurb. They explain why it takes so long in this article.

I agree that if you're refurbishing or carrying out extensive maintenance on an escalator then it would take a prolonged period of time. But this upgrade does not make it sound like its a refurbishment, rather a replacement.

The escalators at the QF Lounges in T1 have taken forever to complete.
Last time I was there they were still using the staircase to exit the lounges.
Wonder why that’s so different from another escalator in the terminal ?

What I meant by this was that the physicaly installation of a new escalator did not take a very long time. But perhaps the actual lead time to manufacture one to replace one that broke down is the problem.

On a related note, lounge reckons Mel T1 will be open within a week or two.

The same thing I've fairly certain. The MRT is slightly older than BNE international, so if MRT are only just refurbishing them now, I'd say the same thing is happening in BNE.
