Maybe it’s simply the hard liquor restriction rather than wine?
Similar situation here when I was out with a group. I'd had a few but was nowhere near "intoxicated". We had a couple of folks who were dead sober and a few who were... let's just say "well on their way." Security didn't give the more inebriated folks a second glance, but were quick to check on the rest of us. Go figure?Also once refused entry to a Sydney pub for "being intoxicated" when I was completely sober. Apparently the bouncer saw me stumble while walking towards the venue. He was actually quite polite about it and said it's NSW law or something like that.

How often / how many people actually request for alcoholic drinks on-demand / outside of meal service? I suspect lots?
