That’s for departures.

I don’t know when it was removed but it was still being done at KLIA T2 a week or so ago.

I never quite understood what it did anyway.

But it’s one less process to have to go through. Even if it was usually quick and painless.

More like effectively meaningless as I'm not sure the staff paid any attention anyway.

Certainly one less queuing opportunity ...

I went though earlier this month.
 
On arrivals the baggage X-ray is just a token effort. Most recently I sent my checked luggage through but accidentally the caryon was over my shoulder so it didn't get xrayed. The agents didn't care that it was not xrayed.
