Airport rail construction has started
Who's the consortium building it?

Ok, the works started are more like enabling works for the actual line to be built, so still some time away!

Six kilometres of new track, two rail bridges and a full realignment of passenger and freight lines between West Footscray and Albion will untangle one of Melbourne’s most congested rail corridors. The works will create space for future airport trains and electrified Melton services to run through the Metro Tunnel, while Sunshine Station gets a major expansion including a longer concourse and two new regional platforms. Early designs also show a 26-metre-high flyover between Sunshine and Albion as part of a future stage.

'Remarkable transformation': Melbourne's 56-year airport rail has finally broken ground

Himalayan debt fixers may take a generation to fix unless the Feds do a bailout so we all pay.
All I see is another CFMEU run. Gov over budget, time lines missed and mountain of debt added to the Himalayan size current debt of this basket case called Victoria.
To be fair, adding on more good debt (as long as cost doesn't end up being 10x) is not a bad thing. Good debt like this will actually help economically over time as it generates economic output.

If they charge $50 for a round trip that would provide $300 million to help service the interest on that debt mountain.
And would offer Perth yet more advertising when the price of the rail ticket to the Perth airport is highlighted. Now to get Perth to offer trains for the early FIFO flights.
Cheap access to the airport helps the required wandering

Of course the trouble with all of the debt is the cost to service it is the problem, which is much higher now than when many of the projects were conceived.

This thread is running very close to the line regarding political posts, and some have been removed.

Please keep to the topic.

Some of the red buses could probably now go to Arden instead of Southern X, would provide better service for central CBD, South Eastern and Western suburbs.
Very true. Coming in on the Pakenham / Cranbourne line getting to southernX a pain now.

Maybe the train line should go MEL to Arden which continues direct to central CBD / Flinders, much more central that southernX.

Good thinking @dajop
