50000 Bonus Aeroplan points with new HSBC Star Alliance Card

They're supposedly bookable on the app/web, selecting "points" when searching. Can't book a payment flight, just rewards flight (like booking a VA flight using AC points)
Turkish availability, at least until very recently, has not been displayed on the aeroplan site. They were for quite a while, then disappeared. They can only be booked by finding availability via another program, then calling aeroplan. Unless you’re saying you saw some recently? (which would be good news)

Yes no issues via the app, I've been searching IST-ATH and IST-SKG

Interesting!! Turkish is back!! At least on some routes.

That is very very recent… like in the last few weeks. It was offline for months before that!

If you don’t mind sharing, if you found the availability on the app… why the need to call aeroplan?

- I didn't know that history, I only started searching last week
- had to call aeroplan (to make the booking) because in the online booking process, after listing names and going to "next" (for seat selection) it would error out.

There's still issues between Aeroplan /AC and Turkish . I have the Aeroplan booking number, Turkish Airlines booking number, ticket numbers but can't get into the TK site to manage booking (select seats). Bit of a worry

Yes.

You have to go to the app for turkish, and have the turkish booking reference, which you have. I don’t think the website works for it with aeroplan bookings.m

And even then, the app can send you round in circles because it seems to update at a different time to the main system.

For example when they changed my aircraft from an a330->a350, the booking itself and seat selection tool was blocked for like three days until the app updated with the new flights.

Hiwever, you can also email the TK office in australia… they responded overnight last time. You can do a dummy paid booking on the TK website, pull up the seat map, see what’s free, the. send an email to TK with your seat selection.

But the app is easier… when it works!

Well pick me up off the ground worked through the app, seats selected! And comforting to know that therefore TK is expecting us.
Thank you.

Just got the card and not interested in getting the gold Star alliance status. Am I right to say (can't find the article) that when they ask if I'm gold already with airline X, I can say Yes. And instead of giving me gold they give me 20k points instead? Or did I dream it.

i think tht you dreamt it.
that said why NOT get AC Gold. Do you have 8A gold and/or VA Gold ?

I only fly in J. And never needed extra luggage on top of the 2x 30 kg.

Hmm that's probably where I read it. Will try investigate it and see if I can get it with this card too.
That’s if you already have Krisflyer gold or higher (is my understanding). Gold with other carriers won’t count.

Biggest plus with gold status, I guess with most airlines, will be faster access to the call centre. And in some cases, you’ll get access to special or reserved award inventory (for example on United).

Yeah I'll see what happens when they ask me which airline etc. I just paid for my hotel stay next month to go past my $4000 spend. Let's see what happens when I put I'm already "gold". Will update here if I get the same result as the krisflyer card.

Received the card few days ago and just registered my Star Alliance account (issue with my name). On the first page when selecting which airline to get the bonus, im greeted with this:

Your KrisFlyer status
With Star Alliance Rewards, achieving Star Alliance Silver or Gold status with your favourite Frequent Flyer Programme is within your reach.

Do you already hold Gold status (or equivalent) with the Frequent Flyer Programme of this Status Airline, through flight or other activity (unrelated to the use of the HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card)?

If so:

Please review the applicable rules here before making your Status Airline selection.
If you already hold Gold status (or equivalent) through flying with this Status Airline, you can receive Star Alliance Points to your Star Alliance Rewards account instead.
Once you gain status with your selected Status Airline via the HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card, further status claims made (via the HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card) in the same qualification year, can only be issued with the same Status Airline.

If you are unsure whether your current tier status with your selected Status Airline is equivalent to Star Alliance Gold, click here .
Do you currently hold Star Alliance Gold or equivalent status through flying with your selected Status Airline Frequent Flyer program?
Yes
No
Clicking Yes, gets another pop up:
You will receive 40,000 bonus Star Alliance Points if you qualify for Star Alliance Gold Status with Star Alliance Rewards. These points will be awarded to you in lieu of Star Alliance Gold Status, these points cannot be subsequently exchanged for status with any participating airline program.

Ill wait and see what happens once I get my statement generated, even though I've made the $4k spend already few days ago. Will update you all!

Forgot to mention, I did sign up for this card but picked krisflyer as my gold "status". Hope it doesn't invalid my 30k aero. :(
It would seem that if you are already KF gold, through another means, you can get the bonus points if you select KF as your preferred status airline.

If you hold star gold through another airlines, say United, but you pick KF gold through HSBC, then you don’t get the bonus points. You’ll end up with 2 x gold memberships. One on united and one on KF.

I'm hopeful that I selected Yes in the bonus points screen that they don't actually check that I'm gold on SQ. And just give me the extra star alliance points. But let's see in couple weeks/months.

That would be up to SQ, who is awarding the points, not star alliance.

Interesting. Why would Star alliance ask me Yes or No then if that's the case?

Secondly I signed up for this Aeroplan 30k bonus + gold ( in the hope I don't get gold and get 40k star alliance points).

Will there be any issues when my $4k spend it met and im meant to get 30k aero but I have things pointed to SQ ATM? Or are there 2 separate buckets.

1.) pick which alliance I want for gold
2.) once minimum spend is met Ill get 30k aero. They will ask for my AC #

Great if you can comment , as I can still change my alliance to AC instead of SQ.

There were several different offers out there. You’d have to read the terms and conditions of the one you signed up for. Or post them here.

From what I can find:

Existing KrisFlyer Elite Gold or PPS Club members can receive a bonus 40,000 Star Alliance Points⁶ (in lieu of Gold Status) when you spend $4,000 or more on eligible purchases² within 90 days of opening your HSBC Star Alliance credit card (that’s 32,000 KrisFlyer miles once converted). Simply nominate Singapore Airlines as your status airline and confirm you are an existing KrisFlyer Elite Gold or PPS Club member when prompted.

Otherwise, signing up and having no status with SQ would give you up to 50k points:
  • KrisFlyer Elite Gold status and 25,000 welcome bonus KrisFlyer miles¹ when you spend AUD $4,000 on eligible purchases² within the first 90 days of account opening and nominate Singapore Airlines as your status airline.¹
  • 20,000 anniversary bonus KrisFlyer miles when you spend AUD $48,000 on eligible purchases² in the first year of your credit card account opening and reselect Singapore Airlines as your status airline for the second card year.³
  • 5,000* bonus KrisFlyer miles when you make a flight booking directly through singaporeair.com or the Singapore Airlines mobile app, using your HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card and spending a minimum of AUD $3,000 in one eligible transaction from 17 November 2025 until 18 January 2026.⁴ *(This offer is open to new and existing HSBC Star Alliance Credit Cardholders)

I think I got my answer. Reading Fast track your way to Aeroplan 50K Status with the HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card dot point #6:

Earn 30,000 welcome bonus Aeroplan® points (the “Welcome Bonus”) when you spend $4,000 AUD or more on Eligible Purchases in your first 90 days from account opening with your HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card. Only Primary cardholders that apply and are approved for a new HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card between December 1st, 2025 to March 3rd 2026, and receive Aeroplan 50K Status after nominating Air Canada as their Status Airline through the Star Alliance Rewards Program will be eligible for the Welcome Bonus (more information available on the Star Alliance Rewards Terms and ConditionsExternal site which may not meet accessibility guidelines and/or language preferences.).

For clarity, cardholders that select to exchange their Star Alliance Status for Star Alliance points will not be eligible to receive the Welcome Bonus. After qualifying, please allow 6 to 8 weeks for the Welcome Bonus to be posted to your Aeroplan account.

This line answers my question, if I can get 30000 Aero and 40000 Star alliance points. The answer is no :( its either:

Option 1: 30000 Aeroplan + Gold
Option2: 40000 Star alliance points only

seems bit different to krisflyer deal you mentioned earlier.
