hsbc-star-alliance-card-art.pngWhy we like the HSBC Star Alliance credit card

Launched in 2022, the HSBC Star Alliance credit card is the first of its kind anywhere in the world. You'll earn Star Alliance Points which are transferable to a choice of seven Star Alliance member airlines at a time of your choosing. You can also earn Star Alliance Silver or Gold status just by spending on the card, with no flying required!

Once you qualify for the welcome offer and are fast tracked to Star Alliance Gold status with any of the seven participating carriers, you’ll soon be enjoying perks like airport priority lanes and lounge access when flying across the whole Star Alliance network. It is the largest airline alliance in the world with 25 member airlines, including Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, United and Turkish Airlines.

Please note that the welcome offer is not available to existing HSBC customers transferring from another HSBC credit card, or if you have previously held a HSBC Star Alliance credit card within the last 18 months. Refer to the full T&C’s for more information:

I probably cancelling this card, it is just doesn't work for me.
I have mortgage, so cannot use sniip on that. As well as council rate doesn't count toward spending on this card as well. I travel international twice a year, but then 3% international fee isn't nice, I ended up use other card with better exchange rate and fee waived.
Buy gift cards.
Been upgraded to aeroplan gold a few days ago . How long before i received the 30 k bonus points .

So, interesting development.

Anyway… same day as losing aeroplan gold get an email saying ‘congratulations, your Marriott gold entitled you to aeroplan silver’

So… two more years of star silver!!
Hi,

I've just joined Aeroplan. I'm not looking to take up the HSBC card atm as have the Premier with a BT offer. I'm Marriott Platinum. What Aeroplan status can I match it to? Is this status match perpetual ie as long as you have that Marriott status or only a one time thing? Sorry to be lazy and ask just thought you might know the answer. TIA for your help :)

Good question and I don’t know! Came as a complete surprise to me.

But it seems Marriott gold matches to aeroplan silver, but I don’t know if that’s for all Marriott accounts or only ones created through aeroplan.

Hi, has anyone received their 25k kris flyer points after meeting the 4k spend on the card.. Got my card late December and I have made the required spend but still no points. My Gold status has been addded though.

So, interesting development.

As you know, Air Canada doesn’t have soft landings. If you don’t meet gold it’s straight back to square one/zero. No dropping down through silver.

And this happened to me on 31 Jan.

However… in an interesting twist… in the dying days of gold I took advantage of the Marriott status match - aeroplan gold to Marriott gold.

I never stay at Marriott but thought… why not.

Not sure how quickly that gets you through to the call centre. Or whether it’s worth the $499 fee.
What advantages does Aeroplan silver give you in Australia. I'm presuming you wouldn't get Virgin lounge access with that?

Looks like where on about the same timeline, gold expired 31 January. I did the same, applied for Marriott Gold, used it just as much as you. Read your post so went looking through my MB emails, no offer there! Opened Aeroplan app and in front of my eyes my gold card turned into silver, with "congratulations" your MB status has unlocked Aeroplan 25k status.🤣

T&Cs given me 6 months now sitting in the corner before I can apply for HSBC card again.

The only thing would be if flying a star partner out of Australia, say SQ? Priority check-in etc

Will actually be interested to see if the status continues when I cancel the card!

I’ve found it. It’s not :(
“No, you cannot use Marriott Platinum status to directly get Aeroplan status
. Only Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite and Ambassador Elite members are eligible to receive complimentary Aeroplan 25K status through the Air Canada/Marriott partnership. Marriott Platinum, Gold, and Silver members do not qualify for this status match. “
