have just booked a F from Melb to Singapore for feb 12th, its a 16:20pm flight, and its my first medium haul,
kind of disappointed I wont be able to or will spend any time in the lounge since I need to quickly leave the airport
Looks like it will be a 777 as well :(
Still looking fwd to it,
Do the experts on here recommend anything ? im thinking of getting early for the lounge, not drink too much and focus on the champagne on board, which I believe standard is Dom Perignon/krug, whereas some people got lucky with Cristal
edit: looks like its Krug and Pol Roger

SQ stopped serving Dom after EK paid for the exclusive rights as the only airline to serve it in onboard. Couple or few years ago I think.
F is 777, Suites/R is A380. Meaning you can't book "F" on an A380.
The MEL SQ F lounge is nice, but not to the level of TPR or other F lounges - I wouldn't bother too much about getting there that early.
Better off to be saving yourself for the onboard offering.

I'm not an "expert" but I've taken this flight so this might be helpful:

  • In case you weren't aware, you can use The Private Room on arrival in SIN. I had hand luggage only but even if you check in luggage, if you don't collect it from the Carousel because you're in the Lounge, it should be ready for you at the Baggage Services desk when you're ready.
  • The 777 F seat is very nice and the bed is incredibly comfortable.
  • Don't fall into the "I have to have whatever is most expensive even if I don't like it" trap -- the aim is YOUR enjoyment.
  • Obviously, don't forget Book the Cook.
  • Expect incredible service in the air. But yes, the Lounge experience in MEL is a little underwhelming. On the other hand it's lovely having the Lounge almost entirely to yourself!

my first Sq F lounge in Mel about 8 years ago, and once last year, nothing had changed,
my first impression was, wow this is small, did feel like a business class lounge,
and in my 2 visits, i have not seen one other person except staff.

TPR seems to have nailed it despite being smallish too

Great advice!
Looking fwd to the BTC and caviar,
I just recall that my last flight was a night flight and they had no caviar service :( (unless things have changed)

this i did not know, so iguess if you are disembarking in Singapore, pass through customs, straight to lounge, drink champagne, go back pickup your luggage

Not disagreeing but I will say, Book the Cook isn’t always better.

In F, you sometimes see inflight menu dishes that look and sound a lot more tempting, especially the ones done by the speciality chefs

If anything I would actually point to an interesting trend of when I’ve flown out of SYD in PY or J over the last few years, I’ve consistently found the BTC meals to be quite underwhelming yet the inflight menu options instead have consistently impressed. It’s interesting but yeah my point is, also check the inflight menu as well for a dish you like.

I was flying SYD-SIN last year, I didn’t want to BTC again after the last few times were underwhelming so I went with this salmon and and couscous (forgot what sauce it was) off the inflight menu and it was 👌

ive done 3 -4 J/F flights/Routes in total, ive chosen and will continue to choose BTC lobster, as I love it, but it definitely looks a lot better than it tastes
Not sure if its the altitude or the recipe or the ingredients, its always quite bland for me,

google says there is a difference between J and F lobster
Key Differences: Lobster Thermidor (Book the Cook)
  • First Class/Suites: Often features a whole Boston lobster.
  • Business Class: Features a lobster tail (roughly half a lobster).
