Give me a daytime flight anytime. I have never been able to sleep much at all on 'redeye' flights. Plus, flights from Singapore etc. are too short to get a proper night's rest - especially if they insist on waking you 90 mins before arrival.

I came here to say the exact thing. Far prefer to arrive here in the evening, have a light dinner, a shower and into bed for a decent night's sleep. No jetlag.

I had t seen it mentioned here but GA have a seasonal DPS-MEL daytime flight during December and January on Sunday and Monday.
Departs DPS at 0820 and arrives into MEL at 1700.
Pretty decent option and pity it wasn’t year round.

And that GA is not in an alliance. of any use to Aussies, ie, Skyteam.
So you can earn by paying with a points earning credit/debit card, but for SC earn with either of the 2 Aus major airlines, none by flying GA.
SQ would still be the best, as in most subclasses, there is an earn in VFF.

MEL - DPS is usually bookable with 40k Qatar/BA Avios in J. Not sure about the daytime services but availability is usually good generally. A330 J, pretty good service.

I generally book GA flights with VS points but we won’t come home with them or anyone else overnight anymore so if this service was available year round I’d probably go for it but as a rule we normally head to Bali around May to October

Last time I did GA on the way there in J and booked the daytime Virgin Australia flight back in economy.

Flight times for VA are much better in mid afternoon, leaving at DPS at 0820 means a pretty early start which to me offsets some of the benefit!

There's also Cebu Pacific's MNL-MEL daytime flight which starts next month.

A little nice thing is that so many of these flights actually exist.

Not quite the same (as it's easterly rather than south easterly travel, and 12 hrs clock face time rather than 9-12 hrs), but there are from what I can tell only 6 daytime flights from US to Europe (5 NYC to LHR and 1 BOS to LHR). Thankfully Asian airlines have all sorts of connections to the day flights to Australia (well other than DPS of course).

It wouldn't be possible to have a daytime flight from US to Europe would it?
Maybe on Concorde or similar, but if my time-difference calcs are correct the 7.5hr (minimum) flight plus the time-difference means you'd have to fly at night for a decent part of it?

Yes there are 5 flights from JFK to LHR and 1 from BOS to LHR. Basically an 8am-10am departure arrives at 8pm-10pm., so 12 hrs on the clock face (of course less actual time). Similar to (at least during DST) HKG/CAN/SGN/KUL-SYD/MEL, HND-SYD which are all around that 12 hrs and less than BKK to SYD/MEL which is more like 13 hrs clock face time.

I think this thread, when referring to daytime flights, doesn't exclude any flying at night, just not overnight. It means in theory that you wake up in the morning in a bed, and you get to go to bed later that evening/night.

In the last calendar year I took 3 day time flights and one overnight flight from Asia to BNE.

SQ now have two day time flights
SQ265 Dep 0705 Arr 1635
SQ245 Dep 0955 Arr 1945

VietJet
VJ83 Dep 1045 Arr 2210

My experience is it is very hard to take these flights unless you are in these cities already for the day of departure. For instance if I was connecting to the VJ flight from Hanoi it is a 0510am HAN departure, 3:45am arrive to airport, 3:15 hotel departure. 2:30am alarm.

For my overnight flight back from Manila I had the option of taking a flight the day earlier in order to be in Singapore in time for a daytime flight or In this case I just opted for the overnight flight investing the connecting flight/hotel money towards the successful PR flight upgrade.
