Jetstar Boeing 787 refurbishment adding more Business Class seats

Thanks for that. I’ve put some friends in row 44 and was hoping it would still be extra legroom (without the extra legroom charge!)

Wonder if it's worth booking in the economy mini cabin so if you end up on a refurbished plane you might get moved to business class.

Would be interesting to see what criteria they use to do equipment swap op-ups on full flights.

I have to imagine if its not full, they're just going to kick you to another seat.

Glad to see that they are keeping adjustable headrests on the Economy seats.

Had read this article which mentions that it's rumoured that cabin dividers will not be a thing. If true, I can't see it going down well for J pax with Y passengers coming up front to use the 'business' lavs.

Hmm, no details on what the alternative seat is.
The mini cabin of 10-13 won't exist, so you will be pushed backwards into the main cabin. Hopefully to similar window/aisle seats but no guarantee.

Rows 54 and 55 still have the pairs next to the windows based on the seat map upthread so not sure why they mentioned this. And 56 and 57 centre seats disappear for the crew rest access and storage.

But overall there are less Y seats so the cabin is going going to be more packed, and they will need to upgrade some people to J (presumably paying points or cash preferred)

Trying to guess when these refurbs might start given JQ is currently operating a tight summer schedule.

SYD-KIX drops 4-3/wk on 26-Jan
Maybe some other changes around that point?

Now I am getting worried because I have 10J booked for BNE-BKK mid March. I hope they don't get refurbished before then. Seat map still shows original config.

In mid-March suspect the odds are with you.. at most it will be a single refurbed aircraft.. and I suspect it will be primarily used on the longer routes (eg SYD-ICN where the new crew rest will mean they don't have to block Y seats).

But from mid-year i'd probably be avoiding the economy mini-cabin if you want your seat selection to be guaranteed to stick.

You will be safe with March. They said from Feb onwards, allow 6 weeks, the no doubt another two weeks when it arrives back home as engineers and flight ops run the ruler over it.

Probably be April onwards one might get the first flight in.

Being done in HKG?
Looks like VH-VKK might be the first refurb.
Positioned MEL-HKG as JQ8970 on Mon 26-Jan.

5-6wks takes you to 2-Mar- 9-Mar for possible return.
Which fits with the stated March 2026 timing

Jetstar statement is:
If your flight is on a revamped aircraft, seats selected in rows 10-13, 56-57 or seats 54B and 54H may change. If you’re affected, we’ll move you to an alternative seat and refund your seat selection fee.
This may also mean that some seats won’t be available for selection when you book your flight.
