Jetstar has signed a deal with Changi airport to make the facility its largest air hub in Asia for short and long-haul operations.

The deal will see Jetstar operate its highest number of services and base its largest number of A320-family aircraft at Changi.

The deal includes a pledge to introduce long-haul services using wide body aircraft out of Singapore.

Long-haul on Jetstar from Singapore...

Which terminal/s?

THe normal ones which QF, SQ and everyone else uses

OR

the Low cost terminal (which is not pleasant)

Considering JQ has always been slated for Euro services, the long haul part is probably for that, they have a resonable presence at Changi already all things considered.

As long as they open up new, holiday-type destinations as per the JQ target market and don't cut QF services, then I'm all for it. More competition = more options and vice versa. A big 'if' though.

I believe the usual rumour routes are ATH and FCO. Not a bad plan, those in ports not served by JQ can take QF into SIN then transfer accross.

Jetstar signs new $3.9b aircraft deal

...The low-cost airline has also confirmed a $US3.5 billion ($A3.92 billion) deal with International Aero Engines (IAE) for the supply of state-of-the-art engines to power a new fleet of 50 Airbus A320.
Jetstar chief executive Bruce Buchanan outlined the airline's moves to increase customer self service in a speech to an industry conference in Singapore...

Guess we just have to join the dots now...

Qantas currently have a red-eye codeshare on JL metal SIN-NRT ... interesting ...

Wonder if JQ will now offer direct services to SIN from East Coast of OZ? The whole Darwin thing without starclass is so unnappealing.

Yes especially given the prolonged connection at DRW on SIN-MEL (arrive 4:05am ... depart 7:30am... that's gotta hurt).

Wouldn't mind betting they introduce services that runs at opposite times of the day to QF's services (eg. on MEL-SIN routes a MEL departure at 7am/8am, arr SIN at 1pm, turning around to operate SIN/MEL at 2:30pm, arr at 11:30pm/12:30am depending on time of year would be neat).

.

I wonder if anyone actually books the 2Am arrival option from SIN that is also on offer - yuck!

Somehow I don't think we'll see a JQ 330 on the PER-SIN run. something about taking too many passengers away form the "normal" QF flights. At least the exSIN fares on QF are acceptable. Though I might fly JQ if *class was reasonably priced.

Maybe the (forced) defection of JL from OneWorld will be the incentive for QF to permit OW partners to earn mileage on JQ Flex and *class tickets.
In any case SIN-NRT *class connecting to AA would probably be a better option than the redeye flight PER-NRT 3x weekly on a QF 767 given Q and N classes on QF do not credit to AA. An AA ORD-HKG flight with some reasonable CX codeshares (SIN BKK PER) would probably further reduce my need to fly with QF, except where Y+ was offered. Will we see that on the 33x QF planes someday?

Needless to say the year will be "interesting"

Wandering around the speculations.

Expect the PER-NRT flight to go 333 from May and I would not be surprised to see one QF SIN flight morph into a JQ A320 given the pilot base in Perth is already going to SIN via Bali and then onto Penang as a rotation. QF has never been concerned about cannabilism as evidenced by the Perth flights leaving for SYD/MEL with JQ at similar QF timings, however if DJ move a 777 to Perth and then onwards it may prompt a rethink by JQ on using an A330 as well.

Yes! Wonderful 5.5 hours at DRW in the middle of the night.

If there were pod style bedding facilities, with shared shower/toilet facilities, say charged at $30-40 for four hours use ... that might almost be an attractive option.

For a 10 hour flight this would be a god send. However, the QF website does not indicate this yet.

It wont for a little while, just like the July 5 change to LAX-JFK for A330 as well, its only been rumoured based on internal QF crew news.

While 10 hours in a 33x would be better, without Y+ I would still prefer to route through SEAsia if there is any way to do so. Yes I have flown the 767 in Y.

PER-SIN is a somewhat different market than PER-SYD. Note the competition from SQ (and indirectly MH CX). If there were 5 QF flights a day PER-SIN I would agree JQ would not cannibalize, but with 2 I think JQ *class would be more effective competition to QF Y than they might want for the O&D pax. Especially given the current exPER pricing in Y. I also note the current JQ flights via Indonesia are almost never available PER-SIN and the horrible timing of the direct JQ flight exPER

As mentioned PER-SIN-NRT in *class might actually get me to consider.
I would consider a great deal more intently with OW partner mileage credits.

JQ109 already does PER-SIN direct. Red-eye getting in at 5.40am. I don't mind this as I book an exit row, take a sleeping pill, and don't care about the lack of meals or movies. :)

(I do care that JQ cancelled my afternoon connection to Penang and put me on the morning flight. I had plans to go into Singapore for a few hours!!) :(

Can't see JQ changing this route to A330's - a much more expensive plane compared to the A320. Out of Sydney and Melbourne the A320 simply doesn't have the legs to get very far into SE Asia hence the A330's.
