What cheeses me off

WCMO: Touring Indonesian islands. Muslim. Conservative. EVERY pre-excursion briefing we are asked/told to dress conservatively - no shoulders showing, no thighs. American lady goes twice with an off-the-shoulder dress.

Third time, she is picked up in the lounge before departure and asked to change. Not happy; minor scene. Told change or staying on board. Goes and changes.

I think it’s been said before but people who are in the ED waiting room coughing up a lung with no face mask on. Waiting 8 hours with a vulnerable relative in a jam packed room every cough filled me with dread. Made a feeble gesture of lifting her arm to cover it.

An airline booking reference (PNR code) that starts with DUD. Given that it's into and out of New York mid February ...... Is the airline trying to give me a hint? 🤣 (OK not really cheesed off, more amused, but if I were a little superstitious I'd be worried about that booking ...)

I guess anyone flying into or out of Dunedin in NZ, will have that within their PNR anyway.

We need another thread for observations that aren't either #WCMO or #LTIL. Maybe IOO (interesting or amusing observation that doesn't Cheese Me Off or Isn't a Little Thing I Like).

Was that because of the new Euro rules, or not enough counters open?

I had the misfortune to fly into Frankfurt just after 2 planes from Communist China arrived. I think it took me longer than that. Pre C.... days
Yep, everyone was getting fingerprinted and photographed. Which I did as I left WAW that morning. So a double whammy for me.

This one can go over here...

Doing the washing today. Husband has a cold, I say did you check your pockets? Yes he says. I have been caught out before so rechecked his shorts pockets, nothing.
Hanging our the washing, ugh didn't check the shirt pocket. Its amazing how one tissue can shred into so many tiny pieces. Looks like its snowing!
My wife is the same. I check and check and still there is somehow a tissue or receipt in one of the pockets and she has to redo the washing as the shredded pieces are everywhere.

That’s the thing… most people make instant coffee with water, and add a bit of milk. Not really comparing like with like when people complain it’s watery or not full-bodied.

If you use only milk, no water, it becomes much more drinkable.

But i only drink coffee for the caffeine, and find no enjoyment in spending $10 - half the price of a coughtail - for a 30 second drink of coffee made by a ‘barista’.

Tip some milk in cup, add instant coffee, then add boiled water.

WCMO, no, what TPMOBT is a not for profit society, to which I have put in 20 years hard work, and most recently brought in a project that will make then between $30,000 and $50,000, totally shafts me in absentia over a small, but unusual request I made that in the end would have brought them credit and more funds.

The e-mail reply is written, just letting it ferment overnight.

Is this the same one we were chatting about in Greenland?

We educated our kids many many moons ago that Christmas presents are alway going to be cash and the amount is referenced to age

$X per years of age.

Mstr QS1 Got immediately Cheesed off.
He said "that means MissQS who is 2 years older will always get more than me" 🤣
I'm trying to teach my little one the same.

I am not a fan of buying someone a gift so they can buy you a gift back.

Shops with poor queue management.
A certain franchise bakery I frequent has two servers and everyone mills around. Do you do x2 Q and if you are stuck behind the terminally indecisive .. tough.. like in a supermarket OR single Q and next cab off rank goes next.??
I don’t care which but communicate people - how about a sign.
Today it was single Q but - unfortunately the combo of the guy in front of me asking for all his mixed rolls in one bag and in SEVERAL BAGS then deciding he changed his mind about everything - and primary school server it all ground to a halt anyway.

Double cheese - shop (il)logistics and customer driven

I predict this wont happen and cash usage will continue to decline in Australia.
I'm not too concerned about cash in decline. What concerns me is the removal of cash options. We shouldn't even be debating this stupidity.

A lot of that might be changing from Jul 2026.
Hang in there a bit longer, you may be paying by card where the cost is minimal or zero
I'm not convinced. Just this year alone I've come across more places with a surcharge that didn't surcharge in the past.

As I get older it sickens me seeing banks taking a 5% cut of every single digital transaction.

Ludicrous doesn't even begin to describe it. Greed getting worse by the day.

5% or .5%?

5% is way too high! I got sent some money as a chair ist as present from a relative… it went from major bank (overseas) to major bank (Aussie). The fee was 3.5% was I already think was daylight robbery! But 5% would be excessive!

WCMO is a rather huge misconception about AI (Artificial Intelligence).

Everyone is carrying on like it's absolutely new, as if AI has not existed before now, let alone in common use until now.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

What is new or rather emerging at the moment is Generative AI, and more specifically at levels of sophistication not seen until now.

AI has existed for decades... it isn't new. Artificial Intelligence is, by definition, any computational system that mimics and performs tasks that would typically be associated with human intelligence.

A famous chess match between human and computer took place in 1978. The human won, but the basis of the chess engine is arguably a form of AI.

Chatbots have been around since 1960s, starting with ELIZA and PARRY. They arguably didn't and wouldn't pass the Turing test and are primitive compared to now, but those were examples of AI and their development was based on a foundation of parts of what we use to develop AI systems now.

AI may be quite advanced and more prevalent compared to several decades ago, but it is not a brand new concept. It'd be like saying the first computer was the consumer home PC, ignoring decades of large computational machines and the like starting from ENIAC.
