Qantas Delays/Cancellations

On Monday 8 December 2025, QF11, the 1745 hours SYD-LAX A388 is expected to depart two hours late.

B789 VH-ZNC on QF10 from LHR down to PER is not arriving until an expected 1320 hours, 50 minutes late, as on Sunday 7, this 1150 hours very late morning offering did not take off until 1303.

A333 VH-QPE is booked on the lunchtime 1205 hours MEL-SIN 'first division' QF35 that optimistically is showing as departing at 1235 hours. The plane only arrived MEL at 1110 hours (55 late) as QF36 from SIN.

On AA. I should be grateful I have a flight in business.

Given AA42 is scheduled into BNE at 0545 hours (i.e. 0645 SYD/MEL time), what flight are you booked on from BNE down to SYD?

(I'm assuming the total extra time is about four hours, if your timetabled transfer in BNE takes a couple of hours).

The flight number is correct - many thanks - but there was an aircraft swap in Johannesburg.

A388 VH-OQJ,. the aircraft that had diverted to MEL, arrived JNB at 1807 hours on Saturday 6 as QF63D and then took off for SYD as the 'regular' QF64 at 2133 hours on Sunday 7 with arrival in SYD at gate estimated for Monday 8 December at 1807 hours, 217 minutes later than scheduled arrival at 1430 hours.

Meanwhile VH-OQB operated the normal QF63 on Sunday 7, arriving JNB at 1454 hours, six minutes early, with it then taking off at 1741 as QF7064. SYD arrival on Monday 8 should be at about 1343 hours at gate.
Did anyone hear what caused the QF63 diversion to Melbourne?

Continuing with Monday 8 December 2025, QF33 (B789 VH-ZNF, the 1530 hours SYD-PER-CDG in France) took off at 1654 so arrival in Perth should be at about 1825 hours, 65 late.

The expected pushback time for Monday 8 December's QF11 (scheduled 1745 hours SYD-LAX, A388 VH-OQJ) has been put vback further to 2030. This is understandable as the plane only arrived in SYD this afternoon at 1745 hours, 195 minutes late as QF64 from JNB.

UPDATE: QF11 was airborne at 2053 hours. LAX same day arrival should be about 1503 hours, 153 minutes late.

On Monday 8 December 2025, QF9, the 1915 hours PER-LHR (B789 VH_ZNF) was in the sky at 2050 hours, so Tuesday 9 arrival at Heathrow should be about 0557 hours, 52 minutes late.

B738 VH-VZQ on Monday 8's 1855 hours SYD-CHC arrived on Tuesday 9 at 0025 hours, half an hour behind schedule. The 4,5 and 6 December departures were respectively 158, 97 and 68 minutes late arriving in the Shaky Isles. While businessmen and women may have no option but to use these evening departures to NZ, they frequently run late and are best avoided, if possible, by leisure travellers. (The same applies to Air NZ).

Monday 8's QF332 with A388 VH-OQI was a 1945 hours scheduled from LHR that took off at 2048 hours. SIN arrival on Tuesday 9 should be 1719 hours, 43 minutes behind the timetable.

In more on Tuesday 9 December 2025, A388 VH-OQG on the 0930 hours SYD-JNB (QF63) was in the sky at 1116. Estimated gate arrival becomes 54 minutes late at 1554 this afternoon South African time.

A333 VH-QPL is rostered on the 1205 hours lunchtime SYD-MNL QF19 that's forecast to depart half an hour late.

QF12 was cancelled on Sun 7-Dec which OQC should have flown.
OQJ will likely operate QF12 Mon, and I suspect OQA/OQB (currently at SYD) will seemingly operate Tue QF11/12 (with the other on QF1/2)

Edit.
Correct prediction with OQB heading to LAX.

Unless they've still got a bunch of extra pax at LAX, OQC may well ferry back to Sydney when fixed.

Aa42 was delayed a couple of hours due to a faulty hold heater. Landed at 845 and the 9am bne to syd flight was in the app and boarding. :p Qantas put me on the 1255 and got in at 330. Points upgrades maintained from LAX to SYD despite everything. Could have been a lot worse but I’ve lost a day. Now for SYD traffic.

Save for the usual once weekly maintenance day, A333 VH-QPK (ex FinnAir) repeatedly shuttles on the SYD-HNL route.

On Tuesday 9 December, the 1820 hours scheduled arrival of QF104 shoujld occur about 59 minutes late. QPK has been at least 46 minutes late on this flight on the last few occasions.

Monday 8's 2010 hours LHR-SIN did not take off until 2303 hours. A388 VH_OQK should arrive SIN at 1934, 114 minutes late, meaning the final sector to SYD is unlikely to depart prior to 2110, which would be 90 minutes behind schedule.

The special extra or charter, QF332 from LHR to SYD via SIN arrived SYD on Wednesday 10 December at 0623, 62 minutes late with A388 VH-OQI.

Sister -OQK on 'the 2' (also from LHR to SIN and SYD should arrive at the latter at about 0810 this morning, 95 minutes late due to its tardy departure from LHR.

-OQG arrived JNB as QF63 on Tuesday 9 at 1606 hours, 66 minutes tardy but then had a longer than timetabled period on the ground, with the return scheduled 1730 hours JNB-SYD not taking off until 2151 hours. SYD gate arrival on Wednesday 10 should be approximately 1820, 230 minutes behind schedule.

Also on Wednesday 10, the 1405 hours SYD across and up to DFW QF7 was previously showing as punctual but ihas been altered to depart at 1605, 120 minutes late. A388 VH-OQD has the honour. The plane arrived this morning 25 minutes early at 0630 hours as QF8 from DFW, so not sure why the delay.

UPDATE: It was in the sky at 1637 hours with same day gate arrival likely at about 1421 hours, 111 minutes late.

B738 VH-ZXL as QF156 from AKL down to MEL should arrive 31 late at 1746 hours.

I'd not checked this for a few hours, so don't know when flight tracking sites or the travelling public were notified, but on Wednesday 10 December, Qf11 (1745 hours SYD-LAX) is displaying as likely to depart at 2040 hours. A388 VH-OQG as QF64 from JNB is about to touch down in Sydney and should be at its gate at about 1818 hours, 228 minutes late, so it's probably forming 'the 11'.

UPDATE: The anticipated delay has increased with a new (nominal) time of 2210 tonight. Still a good window before the SYD curfew kicks in.

QF11 has just commenced pushback at 2238.
