Paper towels enhanced from lounges?

Was in the MEL Dom J lounge on Monday, and there were plenty of the mesh towels in the shower cubicles. Same as were previously available in the loos.

SYD domestic biz lounge today has a small stash of "original woven towels" at the Ladies located near the Panini Bar... I may or may not have stocked up a little 🤔😜

Found them - they are back in the lounge, just near the spoons😀

Are tissues any more recyclable than paper towels? I asked because where paper towels were they've stuffed tissues and people just used a dozen tissues instead of a single paper towel now to dry their hands.
All of which just highlights the stupidity and hypocrisy of their decision. When I took a large handful of serviettes into the ladies in Melb Dom J the other weekend, the other 2 ladies in there exclaimed with delight, used what I shared and said they would be doing the same for all future visits.

If QF ever had a decision making level staff member visit the lounge loos during a busy time, they would see this sort of thing, plus the bins very full of (non-recyclable) tissues that people have used to dry their hands. But they only send in the poor cleaners.

Well I decided to submit a complain/feedback and call out the hypocrisy.

I sent this and included the ABC article link

Hi,

I am writing to provide feedback regarding the recent removal of paper towels from the lounge bathroom facilities.

Paper towels have been replaced with boxes of tissues, which are being used by passengers to dry their hands. Tissues are less effective for this purpose and are also not recyclable, resulting in increased waste. In comparison, while paper towels are not recyclable, they are compostable via FOGO systems, which may offer a more environmentally appropriate option.

Hand dryers are available but are limited in number, consume significant electricity, and are not considered the preferred method of hand-drying in public restrooms. As noted by an expert in the article published by ABC News on 4 November 2025, drying hands with paper towels is recommended when available.

For these reasons, I request that the airline consider reinstating paper towels in the lounge bathrooms.

Regards,

Received an AI response with no useful information. So I responded with this

This is clearly an AI generated response. What I want to know is what are the timelines to take some action and make the requested changes. Firstly, when will a human review this issue and share the outcome and reasons for the decision back to me please?

And then received the most bizare response. Clearly AI got it wrong.

Hi David,

Thank you again for reaching out. I understand your concern regarding the timelines and review process for your request.

Your case will be reviewed by the relevant team for future improvements. While I’m unable to share details of any investigation or disciplinary outcomes due to privacy, I assure you that your feedback has been passed on to the appropriate teams to help improve our processes.

Thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience. We look forward to welcoming you onboard again soon.

Kind regards,

I called this out. I must have embarrassed them as the responded and gave me 10k QFF points :o Really, I just want some paper towels though.

FWIW I participated in a 1:1 market research study for Qantas which asked about personal experiences in lounges and floated a few generic concepts for enhancements.

I gave them feedback about the paper towel situation among other things like the minimal toppings on the sandwiches served at the Syd panini bar. The person looked a little shocked and noted it, but didn't delve into it.
