Adding Leg to Existing Classic Reward Booking

Hi all, apologies I am quite new to all of this so have come to seek advice from this community!

I have an existing Business classic reward booking made earlier this year (SYD-HKG) (before there was a significant increase in redemption rates). I am trying to now add an additional flight to this same classic reward booking (PVG-SYD). The two different call centre operators I have spoken to have each given me different answers.

One of them has said that it is simply impossible and that I must make a new classic reward booking (and that this is a recent change they have implemented when I questioned her further on this).

The other said that it is possible but I will be charged a 12700 point fee for any changes to my booking (I asked that this seems to be much higher than the 5000 point change fee reported online and by some friends who have done similar via phone, but she simply explained that if I do not accept this fee to book a new classic awards booking online).

My question is which one of these operators is correct and if none of them are is there any way to simply add this extra flight to this rewards booking simply for the 5000 point change fee plus whatever additional points and taxes are required? Thanks!

Edit: I also see no way to add this to the exisiting booking on the Qantas website at all

Yes you should be able to add the flight and pay the additional points/fees plus the 5k change fee. You can’t do it yourself online - the call centre must do it. Suggest you keep calling until you get an agent who is competent.

The 12,700 point fee is partially correct - it's the 5,000 change fee added to the 7,700 point operator assistance fee. However the operator assiance fee is waived for business class bookings so doesn't apply in your case.

If you need to convince the operator about this - as I have in the past - refer them to the Service Fees section of this page: https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/discover-and-join/terms-and-conditions.html

Thanks both for your replies!

I guess I will just keep calling until I find someone who knows how to do this, and thanks for that link I now have something solid to refer to in case they try to charge that additional 7700 point fee when it should not apply to my booking.

Successfully added with only 5000 point fee, thanks again. Yes it was to add the flight at the old CR rates (as the booking was originally made before the devaluation in early August 2025) which would have cost an extra 18000 points (stopping in Taiwan on the way back) if made as a separate reward booking at today's rates

Well Done!

Do you have a new ticket number already?

No such change is really complete until the e-ticket receipt is received. Indeed, you could lose segments depending on the carrier if not ticketed ASAP.
