Article: China Eastern to launch AKL-EZE route in December 2025

Thank you - wow, expensive! But it is December, I guess. Hope prices improve over the coming months. Need to travel from Australia to AKL first too, so it cannot cost more than Qantas/Latam

Had a peek into Feb and beyond and still surprisingly high. I remember paying $1500 for a trip via NZ in 2020 that was sadly cancelled due to Covid. Alas those prices are a thing of the past.

You can occasionally get those prices with Qantas but not often and have to book in advance, etc. Not many promotions for that area. I thought the fact that there's a new option to go to SA would make prices a bit more competitive to the area. Here's wishing Air NZ wouldn't have cancelled their flights to Argentina. Flying through AKL and directly to Buenos Aires was really the best option.

I still can't see any award availability on this route. Wonder if that will get loaded eventually. Could be a good use of Virgin Atlantic points, for example.

Auckland welcomes passengers on inaugural 'worlds longest direct flight' from China to Argentina

Auckland has welcomed the first passengers on what has been dubbed the "world's longest direct flight".

A new China Eastern Airlines service from Shanghai to Buenos Aires landed in Auckland just after 6pm Thursday. Auckland Airport chief executive Carrie Hurihanganui said the new route would boost the New Zealand's tourism and business links. The flight from China to Argentina was expected to take more than 25 hours, with the return journey taking four hours longer.

They have no spare jets due to the world wide RR engine issues on the 787
That's a shame, when they flew to BA it offered a good alternative.

I agree with you, Auckland to Buenos Aires was a great leg, even back when Aerolineas Argentina's would fly it with their a340
