📣 PSA: From 5am Tuesday 28 October, all domestic Qantas passengers will use the brand-new northern screening point located next to Qantas check-in and bag-drop.
This upgraded screening point features five brand-new security lanes equipped with Rapiscan CT (Computed Tomography) screening technology (also known as Standard 3) including body scanners and carry-on baggage screening.

🚧 After two years of construction on Brisbane Airport’s Domestic Terminal transformation, Qantas passengers will be the first to experience this new screening point, but rest assured that other travellers won’t have to wait long!
Work is well advanced on construction of a new mezzanine level in the centre of the Domestic Terminal, which will deliver 10 lanes of security screening capacity and is expected to open just before Christmas.
Progress also continues in the International Terminal to deliver the same Standard 3 screening technology to passengers before the end of the year.

Premium has the new machines already I thought.

I got yelled at a few weeks ago for leaving my ipad in the bag at the normal one, I didnt take it out a few days earlier in Premium.
Not sure if any new entry directions but.

Also its not open all the time...hence my differing experiences.

I used the premium entry with the newer style scanners yesterday.

From what I could see the non premium queues had the new machines as well.

If you knew why did ask this then?? Im confused...

Because the PR release says all QFd pax will be using the new security point. I was just pointing out that pax eligible for premium entry can continue to use that, they won’t be using the new screening point.

It was a statement, not a question.

But premium pax will have to use the NEW IMPROVED QUICKER general part when Premium is shut, which it often is as we all know.

So that is still better/faster for everybody...was my take on the article.

The article didn’t even mention premium entry. I was objecting to the use of “all” in the first line, it’s quite misleading as some could think premium entry had been removed now this is open.

Same (late to the party) media thing in Adelaide Princess Fiona. Adelaide has vastly increased and improved their security control measures and trained their staff really well for a few months now. Access for all. Almost a pleasure doing it now. Radio silence. But this week - came the announcements in the media. Trying to latch on to the additional AirNZ flight to Christchurch starting today and also Qantas International starting to fly out of Adelaide - but no joy - just going to Auckland.

Not sure about the efficacy of the new scanners. Going thru the QP scanners recently they kept sending me back, finally asked me to consent to pat-down, found nil and said thanks.
When in the QP I found my chunky divers watch was in its usual place on my wrist and surmised that was causing the ruckus. Doesn't the scanner have a vague visual body scan to find such adornments?

I am somewhat bemused by the usual claims that it will be a faster more seamless experience going through security with these leave -the-computer-in-your-bag machines.

Needing to take every single thing off your person including tissues etc out of your pocket usually means about every third pax needs to go through the scanner again.

In my experience (both here and overseas) it does make the pax flow significantly faster. The problem is you often end up with a queue on the other side as the bags take longer to scan, and some locations seem to flag every other bag for secondary screening.

Overall though I think it’s much faster.

Yeh NTL seems to send a lot for secondary screening. On Friday afternoon I also had security there tell me that it was one bag per tray as I put my tiny Chanel mini in beside my carry on. It easily fit.
Of course on Sunday at BNE premium I tried to follow those instructions as had been told two days prior and got barked at for wasting trays 😂

And if using more than one tub, for instance for carry on, jacket/belt, computer bag or other stuff, you can’t easily put both tubs into the machine 'feed-line' together if the place is busy. Have to wait for a gap or if you can get the attendant’s eye to make a gap, so to push your second one in.

Results in a longer then necessary wait to get to the loading zone and a longer wait at the other end for your second tub to come out behind various others, causing some crowding there. Oh, well, we have an hour or more to kill, I guess. :)

BTW, even dear old HBA now has three of these, although I don't think they had completed the fit-out when I went through.
