Strategy to obtain US Amex

My first card I was able to get through after 4 calls - I feel they are really wanting everyone that is not easy to just present to branch - from their POV I am sure that is the easiest - unfortunately not for us - good luck
Finally got through to someone who has hopefully steered me in the right direction. They have requested a manual processing of the application.

Oh wow I might try again tonight - just pot luck who you get?
I said I’m traveling overseas and have no option to present in branch, requested to speak to a supervisor and the lady spoke to a supervisor herself. Came back and said she will request a manual approval. The previous agents didn’t leave any options but to present in branch

The SUB rules for Marriott cards seems to be complicated. I have seen the matrix on Frequent Miler.

So I guess there is a short window where we can get bonuses on both the Amex Marriott Biz card and then the Chase Bonvoy Boundless, as long as we don't hit the spend for the Amex Marriott Biz bonus within 3-4 months.

called again - did nothing different. - the lady said since its me who requested it and they have the documents the will go ahead and process it and should hear within 2 weeks- not sure if thats true as I have heard that before - guess will just wait and see

HUCA after a couple days 👍🏽 does the automatic line transfer to human without a timeframe status ?

awesome - when you called status line did it give you updates being an Ink?
No I didn’t call the status line after my last phone call with the fraud team. I spoke to 5 or 6 different people throughout this application and it was only the very last one that mentioned putting through a manual review..so just keep trying and hopefully end up with someone useful.

A few DPs:

SoFi: Declined

  • Our inability to verify certain information that is required under the Patriot Act.
  • Data made available to us through public or private sources, which in this case does not include data obtained from any consumer credit reporting agency.
  • Certain transaction(s) or attempted transaction(s) with us or an affiliate.

Tried to apply for SoFi and got the same reason as above. Probably because we declared ourselves as a non-resident alien and an Australian citizen. Looks like to get a non-Amex proof of address, the best chance is with another US credit card with the same myUS address. From above, looks like Chase is the best bet.

I think going to a branch is unfortunately the best way. I tried Sofi with my ITIN and they rejected me. Still send me promotional emails which I’ve now unsubscribed from.

Applied for my CSP in branch at the same time as I opened my checking account. Got an initial letter asking for much the same stuff as C1 (like US state ID from where I was resident) & then the card got approved. Bit skittish about applying for an ink as don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth. Having said that, cards are about to be game over in AU. Tried to pay my strata with my US cards and the surcharges ranged from 4-4.8% so they’re onto that too. Might as well make hay while the sun shines.

YMMV.

I've got a Citi AA Biz card, actually not 1 but 2 Citi AA Biz. I did 2 to dd on the SUB. If you are approved for the 2nd card before completing the minimum spend on the 1st card then you'll be eligible for the SUB on the 2nd card as well.

I got it both this year, 3 months apart. I had a bit under 4 yrs credit history when I applied for the 1st card.

Application was pretty straight forward. Went through the app online and went under review. Waited for them to send a letter which was a request for ITIN and passport. Fax that in, called them a few days later and was approved over the phone.

2nd app was even easier instant approval online.

Contrary to others experience. Citibank has been much easier to deal with compared to Chase and Barlays.

Have had no fraud alerts at all even on larger $2-3k transactions. (Learnt to not add the card to google pay and mostly just use the card online.)
Has anyone had more recent experiences with Citi? I'm thinking whether to apply for AA Citi or Atmos submit considering AA has more access to award availability compared to AS.

I'll apply in person to see if that helps but I'm mainly worried about getting flagged for fraud with Citi. It would be a huge PITA to wait for letters from Citi to clear fraud.
