Cairo in 72hours?

If culture is a euphemism for excrement, we are in agreement.

I've been here too. Really, this is your highlight?
Ahhh, the pristine Nile. You could swim from one side to the other and be more likely to collect an STD than be attacked by a croc.
Wow, a booze cruise
A booze cruise on a dodgy boat?
Really, a mall? That's what you are going with? I went to the cinema at this mall, they censored Batman (Dark Knight)
Kill me now
Cannot comment, don't think I've been there.
You know as much as we might like to get all fuzzy with wonderment and awe of other countries, a reality check needs to be given sometimes.
This is a country where the amazing ancient Egyptians constructed an ill-conceived but nontheless impressive pyramid..........yet modern Egyptians cannot construct a 2 storey apartment block.

I am so sorry, Jock. Sometimes I forget my blog style is tasteless, rude and not funny. Don't let my posts put you off any future contributions. Posters like me are in the very small minority on this site. Welcome to AFF.

Have to say I'm with Jock.

Could say more, but it would probably be impolite.

Wow.

Have read this thread and all I can say is WOW about one particular poster.

I have been to Cairo three times now with three different firends.

Each time was just for a couple of days to take them (and me :)) to see the pyramids at Giza.

One guide book I read said 'no matter how well you build up someones expectactions in relation to the pyramids - your jaw still drops open when you first see them'.

Having been there three times I can vouch for that.

There is absolutely nothing (even my post now) that can prepare you for what an amazing sight they really are.

They are just spectacular.

Three days is just enough time.

Another hotel you could look at that is very reasonably priced is the Intercontinental Pyramids Park. That is about the same price range as Le Meridien, but doesn't have pyramid views. What is does have is a huge pool and very impressive gardens and public spaces.

Last time we went two years ago they had a 'upgrade package' where we got an upgrade to a duplex suite (over two floors) and welcome drinks and cakes and fruit and canapes. Was about USD120 a night. But their normal rooms (which used to be about USD60) were also very good.

For real luxury and a splurge try one night at the Mena House Oberoi if you can afford it. Its literally right under the pyramids.

So one day for pramids (get there early to get an entrance ticket to go inside the main pyramid - a must do to tick off the list!) and another day to go to the museum of the antiquities and main bazaar.

And one day for rest and relaxation by the pool sipping coughtails!

A perfect break.
