Recently I flew MH on a 737 in Y-class KUL-BKK.

It’s quite a short flight, a bit over 2 hours.

I paid MYR 37.00 for an exit row seat. There was good legroom and by luck the middle seat stayed empty.

This was a noon-ish departure and a reasonable hot meal was served in Y-class. A choice of three dishes. I took the beef rissoles which were actually pretty good!

It’s plastic cutlery but of good quality.

Later the drinks trolley passed and there was red and white wine available! There used to be none, even in Business, for flights of less than three hours.

I took a glass. :)

Overall, it was a pretty pleasant flight.

Interesting. Got an MH J flight in a fortnight SIN-KUL. Will update based on my experience.

Some other similar J experiences on FT.

Should have added was nothing on SIN-KUL service either, and snack was a wrapped sandwich or a seafood dish.

From FT it's still not clear which services do/don't have this new MH catering.

OT, but how is KTI? Still have that “new airport” smell?

Maybe post here!

...
Was this Business? What you describe is similar to my MH Business experience on this route.

I have travelled in economy between SIN and KUL on MH many times and have only ever received a packet of salted peanuts (sometimes two).

Re: SIN-KUL and vv.

It's never been much of a in-flight experience for me on dozens of flights by MH and SQ. Mostly in J and Y.

I even flew SQ in F on that route, back when its was offered. Just a simple snack and only beer on offer for alcohol. That's SQ in F!

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that KUL-BKK for some reason is treated differently to other short-haul routes for catering purposes. Though I'm hopeful the OP's experience indicates some improvements - we're flying DPS-KUL-SYD in J next April and the thought of a 3+ hour flight in J with no booze is a little disappointing to say the least.

Oh well, at least the price was right. And I'm looking forward to the new A330 neo J product on the longhaul.
