Read on a FB group I'm a member of.....Chile is no longer requiring Aussie passport holders to get a visa for visits of up to 90 days effective immediately!

Via Google translate:

Australian citizens are advised that, starting September 17, 2025, they will no longer require a visa to enter Chile for less than 90 days.

I'm really pleased with this news. Going to Antarctica in Feb and specifically avoided a boat that starts / ends in Chile to avoid the Visa stress / issues.

Flying to Eze via Scl and transit time is less than 8 hours to avoid needing a visa. Was a bit worried that if we misconnect at Scl, we will be stuck airside for as long as it takes to find another flight. Now that concern has vanished!

Someone needs to tell (not so) smarttraveller
I tried to send a message to Smartraveller but it is not possible! ;)

Even Sherpa is up to date quoting the link in my OP as the source.Screenshot_20250921_072425_Samsung Internet.jpg

Thank goodness for that!

The visa process was such a pain that I've avoided entering Chile on my last several visits to South America. This has caused me some major headaches, since all the flights to/from Australia go through Santiago, especially when LATAM has made schedule changes.

Does anyone have any official link from the Chile consulate or any reputable source?

I can't see to find any more links to this besides the first link posted. I couldn't see any announcements on the Facebook page too

The link at OP is the Consulate website.

OP has given the link to the official Sydney Consulate of Chile.

I also found the same on the Canberra Chile Embassy website.

Also on Melbourne consulate-

I am having the same issue and have had no luck contacting the Chilean Embassy or consulates and there is so much information on their websites saying Australians still need a visa - even their automated message on the Embassy phone line says this. I am also trying to find out information about multiple entries within 90 days.

I just managed to get through to the Melbourne consulate. The lady very kindly explained that travelling on an Australian passport for under 90 days we do not need a visa anymore! She also directed me to the above websites and sta5ed that the information is correct.

That's great! Thanks for the update. Do you know if it also applies to multi entry within 90 days? I am mostly going to be in Argentina but fly in/out of Santiago and planned 2 nights on the way there, and 1 night on the way back.

That’s how these things usually work.

Once you leave, the clock resets. We’re in the US at the mo and were literally just discussing the fact that our previous entry a few weeks ago would have technically covered this trip but we left and came back. Another 90days WT.
