Strategy to obtain US Amex

In light of the Biz Plat refresh - I have a few questions for experienced US Cards - Australian users.

I had 1 BAP and chosen UA as my airlines. However P2 just got another one and needed to decide so we can combine credit.

Problem is P2 also has Citi Elite which I am hoping to combine $200 credit but Citi (if selected) will be $200 on AA - Still not clear on if buying AS flight will trigger Citi $200???

we have plan for Alaska flights next year - If we need to take advantage of $200 on AA then we need to purchase Alaska flight on AA with the credit and for ABP we also need to select AA. Does this work?

However with recent Atmos update, I am hoping to get their cards and would be nice if I can credit our flight to Alaska to earn some Status - planning to match from SA-Gold to get Alaska Gold - together with the flights planned - purchase on AA - but credit to Alaska - to retain match status.

Will this work?

Do I make sense of my plan? What else I have not thought of?

We are Australian hardly able to take all advantage of the cards so hoping to plan it right. Please share your thoughts and experience?

Thanks a lot.

Lost me half way through. 😄

UA you can at least use the TravelBank. The airline credit doesn't work with fare with other airlines AFAIK. Splurge should work with any payment processed by AA I believe.

If you can book an AS flight via AA then yeah it should be okay but I don't know what flights are available on AA that are AS coded. I'm not sure what you mean with ABP credit combined with the splurge?

ABP credit
I can use both credit to buy flights on AA, and credit to AS. But then on ABP I need to select AA as my Airlines for that $200
I used this in the past Amex Airline Fee Reimbursements. What still works?

There are some reddit threads an FT thread with discussion points
Yeah. I read this the other night and decided to ask fellow Australian to see if any works for you. And hoping to get recent DPs. Thanks for your DP. Would yoube advice how much was your tix please?

We bought a normal ticket with Alaska. Then used the incidental to cover an upgrade. Think the upgrade for both seats was $240 USD and the credit applied.

We also used the 35% rebate for a short haul domestic business AA flight which worked out at a decent rate.

So you paid for upgrade with ABP not the tix?

After doing some reading it occurred to me that I haven't really been taking advantage of downgrading and then upgrading cards. I just had the Biz Platinum card AF post ($695 usd) but retain the benefits of the new refresh. If I were to use the bi-annual credit of 2x $300 (once by end of year and another in the new year), plus the Hilton quarterly credit - could I then request a downgrade in say Jan or Feb and get a pro-rata refund? I'd downgrade to the Business Green (which I haven't held before but the SUB with a new one is only 15k points). Then could hopefully get an upgrade offer to the BP or even gold.

Would this work? That is, being able to use the credits and still get a pro-rata refund on the AF.

Exactly what I was thinking of doing

You realise who you are responding to? ;)
Yes of course. . Im just referring to the type of questions should be asked. Happy to answer but if the questions are simply can be found easily in here then what's the point

Yes. This is the strategy

Hi everyone, I need some clarification on how HSBC U.S. handles addresses. When setting up or updating details, they ask for 3 different types of addresses:
  • Permanent residential address
  • Current residential address
  • Mailing address
Does anyone know which one will be used to show up on the bank statements?

The reason I ask is that I recently changed all 3 to U.S. addresses so that my statement would display a U.S. address. That worked, but at the same time, I also received a W-8BEN / FATCA documentation request from HSBC.

Has anyone else run into this? Which address should I update if my primary goal is to have my statement display a U.S. address while avoiding unnecessary FATCA triggers in the future?

I am permanently living in Australia, and have never been to US before, and the US address is my friend's address.
