Strategy to obtain US Amex

C1 giveth and C1 taketh.

VX shut down by C1 for no reason that I and the fraud team can see. I called C1 and they weren't sure either. They went through my transactions and didn't see anything odd. It wasn't a full shut down as I have other cards still open from C1.

Lost around 100K points so mindful with C1....!
Will you get those points back? Surely you will...

Out of interest how were you using the card? Were you using in Australia and mobile wallet or anything like that?

Based on what I've read, they're nothing like Chase. Once they close it's gone. Sometimes they'll transfer them into credit for your account or they'll send you a check at 0.5c pp but no guarantees.

Mainly Mobile. Had the card for almost a year. They even approved me for a 2nd card earlier this year. No abnormal purchases. Mainly just AUD groceries and internet bills. My guess is that they're flagging you as a normal US resident and closing you down. Or they couldn't build a profile for you and found it too high risk.

I would suggest anyone interested in C1 to either:
  1. Apply, hit the limit and transfer everything out and forget about it
  2. Don't apply. It's just not worth the headache and pain when the random shut downs happen

Does anyone have any recommendations as to what else to apply for? I'm at 4/24 assuming my failed Atmos application doesn't land.

I wouldn't mind the Amex Brilliant and an Ink..... Does anyone have any experiences with BoA with an ITIN? I know Tiki has a SSN and has been a long time customer so maybe not as applicable.

Mine which is just a week old got shut down early morning today. Thankfully hadn't put any big spends on it yet. All spends (minor) - SYD trains, etc were with physical card. I'll be calling them later today.

That explains it.

Chase Ink Biz/Cash have a 90K/$900 sign up bonus with no AF. 3% FX.

It's laughable how good Chase is compared to C1 or BoA.

Applied, called, approved, card expedited within 20 minutes.
Nicely done

Now I get FOMO.

P2 got rejected for Biz Hilton a week ago even after submitting bank statement with reason Too many inquiries Not much balance in bank account.
1 week after got approved for Biz Platinum. 250k for 20k spend. Not what Im aiming for 275K and no referral, just applied straight up from offer within account itself

Now come along elevated offers from Chase but still 20k to spend with Amex

Any reason for that? I figured I’ll pull the trigger on the CIBP later when hopefully an elevated offer. 3% foreign fee is only real big downside

the CIBP is 0% FTF - $95 AF and also has raised offer which I didn't realise - will apply tonight
from what I read, it is a standard offer. Can’t remember the site but they recommended to apply when offer >100k. No AF on the unlimited and smaller min spend. Suppose the 3% FTF (offset by 1.5% return) adds to fees

I haven’t had any luck with C1. Was thinking of trying again next time I’m in the US but if my long term use will be in AU, the risk is too high for a shut down. I’ll leave it alone. I was looking for a charge card that’s not Amex. I know the C1 VX Business is one. Are there any others I might not have seen and which might be ok with predominantly AU spend?

Re Chase, I have a lower income than when I got my CSP. They also asked some questions but they approved my in branch application so ignored the emails. Might I be poking the tiger if I apply for an Ink due to the unanswered questions and reduced income? I want to get the SUB now the points game is rubbish in AU but don’t want to lose what I have. Was looking at CIBP otherwise. SUB is only reason I’d want it. CIBU looks good tho the FTF negates the value. Happy to be corrected.

Then why worry about Fx. Take the SUB and move to next card
makes sense. Guess now there is the matter of my reduced income since last income disclosure when I applied for CIP.. Does Chase have the equivalent of a FR? I'd hate to have my CSP limit reduced as a result or it taken away for predominantly AU spend.

Thank you! Was waiting for an elevated offer for a Chase business card. No auto approval… bugger!
Update for the Chase Business Unlimited. Contacted the status line and was told I will receive a letter within 7-10 business days. Contacted Chase via phone and was told I need to complete a W9 form. Anyone done this before and any risk with this? I will then need to fax it to their number.

Edit! Just contacted backend team (someone in earlier threads said to do this). Have been provided a secure link to upload passport / ITIN / address :)
