New Qantas promos including double status credits (book by 3/9/25; travel 4/9/25 until 22/8/26)

I’m in the boat many are in. I’ve got enough forward bookings to retain gold this member ship year. The fact the bonus SC’s and the DSCs dont count to lifetime means no incentive to book any more flights. I’m a few thousand short of LTG as well, so things are ominous if this latest enhancement is an ongoing thing.

The bonus SCs not applying to lifetime is really pretty poor from Qantas. They know it will benefit very few people…. Easy to hand out SC bonuses that will do little for many FFers. DSCs I’m more ok with not counting even though it’s another enhancement…. But yeah otherwise it’s a useless gift for many of the people they are apparently keen on showing their gratitude to.

I expect SCs on award tickets for PC will be next to lose the lifetime benefit.

Grateful DSC is still a thing, but those not counting towards LT either is a shame. Very disappointed with the SC gift not counting towards LT though, basically makes it useless for probably the majority.

I'm a Bronze member w/ Points Club - currently on 196 SC and I've earned or used points in the past 18 months, so therefore I assume I'm eligible for these 40 SCs?

Just got an email from Qantas :

As one of our valued Frequent Flyers, your loyalty means a great deal to us. We sincerely thank you for choosing Qantas - whether it's for business, holidays, or the moments in between.

To show our appreciation, we're giving you 40 Status Credits and 2,500 Qantas Points, as a Bronze Frequent Flyer and Points Club member. These will be added to your account by 30 September 2025 and will contribute towards your annual status. There's nothing you need to do but you can find more information here.

It's our way of saying thank you - and supporting you on the journey ahead.

Green tier would net you an additional 50SC that can push you over the line for Silver

I had a look at the tasks involved and it would be probably easier to just book a ~$400 return flight MEL to SYD as I'd only need 16 SC to make Silver after the bonus SC and my upcoming flight.

So our trip next year is with Turkish airlines and we pivot via Denpasar for cheaper deals. We'd given up on WP status so booked with Turkish in J. Cost $8000 for two of us in J. Just looked at Cathay to see if we should change and the price is over double. Ah. Nup. Emirates a bit cheaper but not worth it either. So maybe not going to take it up after all.

Sorry but the poster said they're going out of their way to retain WP then immediately moving to VA, to me it's illogical. Just how much flying are you doing in this scenario that requires status at both QF and VA. How many long haul internationals a year that you would need a second option to get what, lounge access?
Doesn't VA offer status match from time to time?

It's up to you. You can get green tier for pretty cheap (a lot cheaper than $400) and not having to do any flying. Resets every year and counts towards lifetime.

I notice that the FAQ says it can take up to 8 weeks for the DSC to be credited.
What are people's experiences with how soon they show up in reality ?

If I book a flight using this, it would be in early / mid October and my year-end is Oct 31st.

Given the DSC would be just enough to have me retain gold, I am a bit concerned that they may not show up in time.

Historically takes a few weeks for them to start flowing at the start of the promotion, then happens within a day or so once the promo is in full swing. More recently though, they've been faster at getting them out to people even early on in the promo period.

Thanks, that is reassuring.

My last flight would be Oct 18th, giving them 13 days to have them issued.

I have taken the option of double status credits for flights in my next loyalty year. The offer of bonus status credits doesn't really assist me, as I have already achieved Platinum for the year, although I do welcome the extra frequent flyer points from Points Club. The thing now, is just juggling around some funds to pay for all my flights next loyalty year.

Anyone know when do they do that?

From my understanding, the DSC is only credited after the flight. If so, even though I don’t need the status this year, I could book under the double status offer for next year ( fly date after my membership renewal) to use towards requalification for 2026 status. Is that right?

I do agree though, it’s unfortunate that it doesn’t count towards lifetime status.

Really?

I've had a look at some of the activities in Green Tier and it seems it's more trouble than it's worth (remembering I only need 16 SC, not 50 and I'm not interested in LTS/LTG etc as I don't fly anywhere near enough to even get to Gold).

Flying - Voluntary Carbon Program - I don't have enough points to help compensate for a portion of emissions.

Travelling - I've already booked all my hotels.

Lifestyle - Seems Solargain products would cost >$400 and / or the Red Qantas plan is worse than my current AGL EV Night Saver plan.

Shopping - I don't drink much and therefore buying alcohol would be wasted.

Learning - Probably the only one I'd likely do.

Give Back - Don't have enough points to purchase.

With one exception, silver's not really worth busting a gut for. One lounge pass and priority check-in are the main benefits (and seat selection if not booked through Qantas directly).

The one exception is if you're flying in the US soon as Oneworld Ruby saves you a motza on checked bag fees on AS and AA.

It's always back dated for the flight you're on. So even jf you got it after your anniversary, it counts to the day you took the flight.

A lot of them you can pay $$ instead of points like carbon offset is a couple of dollars for a syd-mel flight.

There is that too. Can just be mildly problematic is status hasn't auto-reflected for your new member year and you're flying early in that new year.

I agree, but given I'd be very close to Silver, I was just moreso looking what options there would be to reach it, given the additional 40 SC bonus brings me very close.

Appreciate the 80 status credits and the 2500 points, but the DSC promotion gives with one hand and takes with the other for me.
There are no cheap fares right now, and if I wanted the status credits it boils down to purchasing them due to inflated fares.
Not quite the promotion we have had in the past.

Theres .. shall we say ways around that. :)
