What has so far gone under the radar is that they've largely moved to a revenue-based program. You still have the option to earn by distance/segments, but they're going to appeal to fewer people from next year due to the earn rate.

Just like many other programs, they primarily want you earning status through spend on co-branded credit cards and expensive revenue fares.

I read that you can chose: spend or segments or miles.

BUT you’re locked in to 1 of 3 methods for the year (changeable once a year thereafter).

Some of the Miles thresholds will increase next year but so have the benefits - mainly system wide upgrades across AS and HA.

Yes, that's correct, but there are now all sorts of disincentives for choosing segments or distance hidden in the T&Cs.

For example, you no longer get minimum miles or class of service bonuses if choosing distance.

I presume the (I think) unique feature of earning SCs on AS redemptions is being retained. May make lots of sense for the right flyer.
Like most US programmes no domestic US lounge access with status

Yes, they would prefer customers to get the $395pa premium credit card and the 8 lounge passes that come with that.
