Qantas starts international wifi

Asia and South Pacific is defined as a "varied connection".

VH-VZB worked for virtually the entire flight on QF101 to NAN recently until final approach into NAN. There were a few minutes a few hundred kms off the NSW coast where it dropped out whilst switching between Skymuster and Viasat.

Does anyone know if Wi-Fi is now rolled out across the A332 fleet?

The flight I'll be on in October is generally scheduled on an A330-300, however upon a check, there have been 2 days where a -200 was used on this route in the past 2 weeks. I suspect it was probably due to a last minute equipment change or similar.

I guess by then, there'll still be no chance of Wi-Fi on the -300s (only on the -200s)?

Not too tied up about internet as I'll load up my laptop with content, but having it would be a bonus even if only over Australia.

The A330s are now the same as the 737s whereby it switches from Skymuster to Viasat after leaving Australia. This means that on A330 flights to Asia and beyond you'll get a connection where fitted.

81% of the A330-200s 13 of the 16 is fitted with wifi. VH-EBM, VH-EBP and VH-EBQ are not fitted.

10% of the A330-300s only 1 of the 10 is fitted. VH-QPH is the only one right npw. 2x Finnair A330-300s are due to come into the fleet soon whilst these are fitted with wifi (panasonic not viasat) it won't be active.

100% of 737-800s and A220s are fitted.

Thankyou for the outline, guess it's most likely a "no" to having Wi-Fi then, as only 1/10 of the -300s are fitted with it.

My recent HNL-SYD flight was subbed out from B789 to A333 (I’ve was booked in PE…😢). Apart from being shunted to whY, I thought at least we might get some wifi - closer to Oz. But zip, zilch, nada. “Wifi not available at the moment”…

That's unfortunate - were you also downgraded to economy from premium economy?

It's far behind the times when QF barely has a fleet of aircraft running international flights that don't even have the option for Wi-Fi! Domestically though, exceptional.

I remember way back in 2016, even TR had the option for Wi-Fi and it worked quite well.

9-10 years later and our major carrier is barely competitive.

TR had wifi that used to be cheap, on first launch it was unlimited data for US$22 valid over 24 hours (also working on connecting flights). Now US$31.80 for 1GB or US$9 for 200MB, those are the pre-purchase prices it jumps to US$55 or US$30 for the two packs if purchased onboard.

Compare that to QF which is now rolling out free fast unlimited internet for all onboard.

Yes, I agree, but the main point was that in the mid-2010s, even a budget airline had the option for Wi-Fi, no matter how expensive it was.

QF in the mid-2020's doesn't even have an option for Wi-Fi for most international flights.
