Filling in some gaps in Spain, a Greenland cruise and I'm getting a tattoo!

Sorry if you have seen this programme, however we just watched episode 3 of Martin Clunes series on the Islands of the Atlantic.

First bit is on the Faroe islands and then Greenland. May be of some interest.

I'll put this over on the other thread as well.

If you happen to find any number/license plates, think of me..... Greenland plates are highly sought after.....

That is a good ‘please explain’ geologically speaking Roo.

Well, its obvious that it is columnar jointed basalt - right? Very interesting. And there is a nice fault going through the LH leg - nifty. And the shape - looks like its folded but I don't think it is. Just phoar!

All I want to see is rooflyers tatoo.

What would drron think?

I am more amazed you got a ticket to the Tattoo at short notice than that you didnt get a ticket on the Hogwarts Express at 3 months out....

If you drive from Fort William to Mallaig via Glennfinnian the road and train track are beside each other a lot of the time anyway. Years ago there was a free carpark under the viaduct to watch the train, probably 20 pounds to park there now.

The last time I was there and tried to get near the viaduct I had to park over 2 km away and gave up. It was so crowded.

In 1982 I caught the train from Fort William to Mallaig and it was autumn and was one of my most memorable experiences and the scenery was just beautiful.

In 2017 I drove the route and had intended to to stop at the Glenfinnan viaduct but the traffic and the queue were enormous and I knew that I was not going to make it before the train arrived. I drove a bit further and pulled into a parking bay to decide which way to go and lo and behold I could see the train. I also got some more photos when I got to Mallaig

@RooFlyer There are regular trains between Fort William and Mallaig so you could probably just do a return trip if you want but I would also keep an eye on cancellations for the Jacobite train

Good luck 0113 (2).JPG0114 (2).JPG0115.JPG0121.JPG0140.JPG0143.JPG

Thanks - but nah, def not doing the ordinary train and plans now wouldn't accommodate the Jacobite. Will have my car to go exploring.
