Jetstar have one way fares for some dates next year (eg May 2026) for $609 one way from Melbourne to Singapore in "business class" (in reality more like premium economy, but possibly tolerable for a daytime flight), is that considered a steal?

Yeah, i noticed that a few weeks ago! $589 if you are club jetstar!

It’s a pretty good deal. I think Scoot is around the same price, but you don’t get the upgraded meals service, drinks and snacks.

I've never flown on Scoot (or Jetstar business for that matter), but is the hard product on ScootBiz as good as that on Jetstar?

I need to get to Shanghai in late May next year, I could either spend 75k QF points to go BNE-TPE-PVG on CI or go to Singapore first and it would then be a further 43k to go SIN-HKG-PVG on QF J redemption via CX. The latter would require me "wasting" 2 sightseeing/family days. Also these points are pre-devaluation. I'm leaning to the former but what would be your suggestion?

Defo the through fare. By the time you have to add $1000+ for the paid flight to SIN, plus mucking around… it’s probably worth the 30k points premium to fly on China airlines (who are very good).

The scootbiz seat is pretty much same same as Jetstar’s, but has an inch extra seat pitch.

The other advantage? With an award flight you can cancel if you need… JQ or Scoot you’ll be locked in!

Hard product is similar.

Jetstar soft product (different meals to Y, unlimited beverages) is substantially better.
Air Asia X has a substantially better hard product, but the soft product is economy.

Only bummer is having to add another $200 for Max if wanting points and SCs.
Its somewhat worth it on routes like ICN-SYD where it's the only way to get into a lounge even if QFF elite.

Actually this is quite good IMO, last time I flew JQ business (many years ago) to get the FF points and status credits it bumped it up from the sale price to the full-fare. So the $200 on sale I think is ok.

I booked a similarly priced Jetstar "business class" fare on this route last year, and paid the $200 more for the Max bundle to get the 125 SCs (and some points). I thought it was great for the daytime MEL-SIN flight. Qantas wasn't that much less in Y for a one-way ticket.

If lounge access in ICN is an issue, you can get into the ICN OneWorld lounge using Dragonpass for $US28 per person through a Club Avolta 12 month Dragonpass membership which is gratis.

Having said that, the ~$200 extra buys a lot of status credits.
