Article: Live Music in the Qantas Club

They shouldn’t be discouraged on making improvements in any area just because it’s not the area that bothers you.

Seems to bother quite a few here ;) . By 'improvement', I think you mean 'enhancement'.

In any case it’s a massive lounge, you can always sit in a different area.

I do!!

I'm over (most) lounges

I think my local pub has live music on a Friday night as well.

I think this is about right:

Yep. See above link.

Although if they get Toploader or Feeder to play QFF? I will forgive them.

The hell are you, pal!?!?
Staff guarding the entrance!? Jeeeeeez
Was mostly a joke however last Friday went to the pub after work around 5pm (in the Brisbane CBD) and no security guard as they usually start after 8pm. Ended up leaving around 7pm to go get dinner down the road and walked past a frozen yogurt shop which go figure had a security guard (this was Yo-Chi, now a national chain).

Not sure you’re following your own argument. This was in response to you saying they should “focus on the basics”.

And plenty of others saying they need to spend the $500 on food / seats / better IT security.

As I posted upthread I was flying out of NTL when they started this and it was really nice. Nothing like finishing a week of work and either going home or going on a trip, enjoying a drink with some live music.

It’s not like they’re playing hard rock or techno, it was pleasant tunes.

I get this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I’d argue AFF skews elderly and isn’t representative of QF’s customers.

Concur. At 42 I am definitely chewing the cud!

The fun police is out in force in this thread!

I don't think it's that.

Guess they prefer the sounds of screaming kids and roudy businessmen.

I would rather have that over a band playing music I don't like.

I think AFF is generally an older audience.

Perhaps if we had an AFF Discord channel…

I am not 'young' anymore, but the older I get, the more I hate those 'classic tunes'.

The sort of music I listen to are those played on FBi radio or Oxford Art Factory for Sydneysiders, and Corner Hotel or Cactus Room in Melbourne. When I hear someone playing 'classic tunes', it is like someone playing yoga music at 7PM on a Friday, I would want to go up and unplug their gears.

Unless Qantas is going to hire DJs to play tracks equivalent of Sunset, I would rather they leave people alone to chill and chat.

When 2 people talk, it's white noise. When 1 person talk on the phone, it's annoying. When someone plays music one hates, it drives up blood pressure.

The Qantas Club in Sydney now has live music on Friday and Sunday evenings:

Have you experienced this? What do you think of it?
I've experienced it about half a dozen times and it's always been a different duo. Definately not loud, normal coughtail bar music and very pleasant. If you want it to sound just like their normal background music then don't sit in front of the food area where they perform. Most of the comments sound like people who haven't been and think it's like a pub rock band which it isn't. I've sat within 5 metres of them and had a normal conversation over drinks - it's a great addition to the lounge.

I had to check the date to make sure this wasn't an April Fools Joke.

Seems like it's real, and perhaps a subversive way for QF Lounge management to address lounge overcrowding at peak times.

At any rate, thanks to Matt for this public service announcement, I now know to avoid travelling at those times through the SYD lounge.

Or even spend the $ on bringing back paper towels.
Well the QC in Sydney had paper towels in the Shower room
I used one of the rooms on Wednesday
morning to change trousers and voila there they were … that made me happy

Haha. Same sentiment here. I'm not a fan of live music in cases where it's not the whole point of visiting some place/venue etc.

If I'm specifically going somewhere to see a show or act, awesome!

But if you're going to a restaurant or something, then a bunch of dudes start setting up with violins and saxophones just as the entree comes out... Yikes!

The old joke: "Dinner and show $75. Dinner only $100".

Think of it as "non-consensual live music". :)

This might work on Friday afternoon, evenings as a end of week wind down but agree that during the week this isn't going to go down well!
