What's behind your AFF user name?

I'm neither a pony nor a boy 😂 I wanted a handle with "Gold" in it and this line from one of my favourite books when I was a teenager popped into my head.

And the avatar ... I love tennis. One of these days I'll start an AFF tennis thread so we can share our travel tips etc for the Grand Slams.
But of course, sadly, 'nothing gold can stay'. (Was a fave book - and movie - and poem! - of mine too.)

As for my user name; not actually a reference to FF program points-type miles as some might suspect but in fact referencing the two lead characters in one of all time face movies, who I see as two sides of myself (or, put another way, I see myself as a sort of amalgam of the two characters) - or used to anyway - would like to think I've wised up at least a little bit 😅.

Many many years ago I was an underwater photography instructor and one of the pioneering dive guides that opened up the area of the Red Sea known to divers as the "Deep South" (Ras Banas south to the Sudan border) and then beyond that leading three week liveaboard trips from Egypt south into Sudanese and Eritrean waters - totally exploratory diving of reefs that weren't even shown on maritime charts. The diving was totally mind-blowing, we were discovering shipwrecks by chance, and it was the best days of my life. So RSD = Red Sea Diver

A very large chunk of my later life has revolved around horses.. hence The Geriatric Horseman …. 🏇
Wherever I see your post, it always reminds me of someone in my graduate job whose initials are the same...

Yes. It’s not encouraged but I have done it. My rookie mistake when was to sign up with my actual name. Soon realised that was not the go!

Contacted admin and asked nicely and they fixed it for me.
You can do it yourself under account details - once per year

The Seats are all divers although I’m not active at the moment because of my chronic cough 🙁🙁🙁. Seat Son and Mr Seat 0A dived in the Gulf of Aqaba a few years back without me. But I did get to enjoy a crazy beach club there.

Prozacs divers also. In 1982 I took the first published photo of The Lady & Horse in the ballroom of the President Coolidge. Depth 150' inside a shipwreck (complete blackout). From memory 21minute bottom time, 11m decompression at 20' and around 6m at 10'. We dived to around 200' (exiting the wreck over the poop deck at 200') over subsequent days. Never made it to the aft deck rail at 240'.

Done alot of dives up and down the east coast and around 1983 I dived in Exmouth Gulf when we were doing a bit of drilling for oil and some more up the west coast. :) Oh, and Fiji too, Taveuni, Waianunu, Savusavu.

The Outsiders by S E Hinton. Classic teen-lit. Adapted into a pretty decent feature film by Francis Ford Coppola, which starred an incredible array of then-emerging Hollywood actors.
Remember reading that in yr8 English too many times.

Mine is from daft punk.. was a fan of their really early work (late 90s) and just love the word too.
009 because sounds cooler than 007 :p
