Airfares to US to drop?

Yeah, it seems that what is happening in the US is more shocking to those outside the country than those in it!

They LIKE their journalists being targeted by authorities in retaliation for reporting on what the authorities are up to!
The Channel 9 reporter caught on TV apparently isn't the only one.

Looks like the Trump regime fully intends to escalate this, they're sending a coupla thousand Marines to L.A. as well. They can't legally be deployed against the population unless Trump invokes "national emergency", which he hasn't done yet despite sending those troops there ... but these protests make him look bad & that's something he can't cope with.

However - the lead time on ticket prices is normally a few months, this sort of thing would have to keep flaring-up for airfare reductions to happen IMHO.

And my guess is those that are really most concerned by it, sitting at home sucking up the TV coverage are probably not the group of people who were ever likely to travel to the US anyway.

Meanwhile those of us looking at news online probably don’t scroll far enough down to find it out, because we really have to scroll a lot to get past the latest mushroom trial headlines. 🤣

Just checked the fares from Qantas, the same dates from when they had the sale a couple of weeks ago and business class is through the roof. Between $12,000 and $16000 , premium is just at $5000 . So Qantas is having them down

Just did a quick check on Google Flights and in general flights are still all up at about those prices.
Don't see prices coming down at the moment
Oops flights from Sydney to lax

Well it just made a big round of news cycle in Australia and to some degree overseas too as a 9 news reporter was deliberately aimed at and shot in the calf with rubber bullets by riot police whilst standing there reporting (shes physically ok). Lots of calls for Albo to make a formal complaint.

I was watching Australian news on YouTube to find out the latest. Nothing on local news, Fox and MSNBC had their respective talking points but far from wall to wall coverage as you’d expect.

Local news here were covering the democrat primary election tomorrow.

I do think there is an element of media hype. CA governor said it was nothing to compared to when the Eagles win a playoff game.

I guess it will really blow up when the bullets stop being rubber.

Given around 20,000 homicides, 30,000 suicides and 80,000 additional injuries by gunshot in the USA in an average year, many of the population of the US would be tuned out to any media regarding even lethal gunshots and thus media not bother if they aren't going to get paying clicks.

It’s much bigger news that the Trump regime has deployed the military against a few protesters than the protesters themselves are … as a tourist you’re going to be in WAY less danger than you are if you look like media.

Triple-figure Y fares might make the 14 hour ordeal worth doing.

However, as much as I'd love fares to collapse, the real problems are twofold - a) the standard third-world country issues, and b) getting into said country without a Guatemalan/El Salvadorian detour.

The fares are already low. Im not sure how low people expect them to drop but when i can book three days before flying one way for $750 in Y that seems a decent price to me.

Premium cabin fares are still well above precovid - which is the chief complaint.

Last-minute fares three days out are useful to absolutely nobody (anyone flying for work will be up the front, where fare remain utterly ridiculous).

And what that actually means is another thing … my FIL had two passports, because he visited the USA but also Vietnam & Cambodia regularly, and the USA was very weird about Vietnam & Cambodia.

So … Egypt is on the list, if your passport has an Egypt stamp in it and you’re female will Mr Trump himself inspect you personally & intimately?
