New layout at PER

Expect my surprise when I tried to go through security and all the doors said no entry!

It looks like they've finished the security renovations at PER and entrance to security is now to the left, down the far end near where the JQ check-in used to be.

It looks like they've added a few aerobridges too, so a step in the right direction.

I don't think I've seen anything about a J lounge for PER. It would certainly be great if it comes, especially since I'll probably be WP by the end of April

Flew out of Perth yesterday - what a shamozal! Not only are the drop off points under full reconstruction (why Xmas?) with barriers, lane minimisation and worksite conditions but the word from my sis is that come next week the traffic banks up right through the roundabout and nearly to the highway/airport entry point! Sis and family have resorted to get out of car and walk to terminal dragging Xmas baggage! On our arrival into the terminal we were in the Qantas queue for 30 mins and just made our bag drop by minutes. New set up with security to the left is going to create a flow issue - you have to walk back through the Qantas check in counters to get to that side of the building - had to negotiate other flyers and their luggage - not a good set up. So word of warning - if travelling out of Perth in the next week - plenty of time and patience!

It took me less than a minute to get from the roundabout, to the temporary dropoff point and then 2 minutes later I was at security, another minute after that through security and up to the QP.

Also, there is a J domestic Lounge slated for Perth, it was announced some time ago.

I'm guessing that the common airside passenger area is no bigger than before. That always ends up being a zoo around the early afternoon and later.

Hopefully coming in good time! They really do need one, although I'm hoping that it won't simply be a case of separating the mining people and the non-mining people (i.e. J Lounge and QP respectively).

I'm also hoping that it will not simply be adding a dividing wall to the existing QP. I do like the view very much from that lounge - great view of the tarmac.

Actually constructing the new lounge(s) around the existing ones will be pretty tough...unless they're planning to close the QP temporarily... :-|

Not sure I follow this. There are the check-in lanes, you drop your luggage off, then walk at the front of the queues to get to the security. If you mean, having to negotiate others going from the queue to the desk, then yes, but it was the same in the previous set up.

The only way that the domestic terminal could be expanded was to the left (as you're facing the terminal from the carpark). For those experiencing delays pay a few bucks to park a car in the short term bays. There have been extra 2 hour bays created from what were hire car bays so it is relatively close to the terminal..

For those who haven't travelled to Perth in a while it's all been flipped around. Jetstar checkin counters are where the QF J counters were and vice versa. So once you enter the terminal (if you're Platinum, Gold or Qantas Club) turn left.

Part of the expansion will be the new chipped luggage tags, looking forward to that.

On a much less interesting note my boss and I were the last two people through 'the old' security screening point.

Out of interest, has anyone got any maps/drawing/diagrams of the new inside of the QF terminal? The PER website is shocking. All the links are broken (re-directs to perthairport.com rather than perthairport.net.au) and the maps are the old ones.

According to this Qantas release in July 2008, the Perth business lounge would open (in 2010). However, they appear to have gone quiet on it, especially given the redevelopments to the main lounge.

My beef with the new layout is only one lane for Platinum, Gold, Silver, Qantas Club and Business. That's practically an entire plane in one line!

Queuing up as an entitled pax for a line other than premium check-in due to line length isn't unusual.

I haven't had to do it before in PER, but when it (rarely, at least for me) occurs in other airports I just line up for the shortest, closest queue and make a joking remark to the check-in desk about the length of the premium line!
